[Known 7146] Quest Glitches (ToB) *SLIGHT SPOILERS INVOLVED*

Getting alot of issues with some of the quests. I'm not sure what exactly is causing them though since its not a complete game freeze or crash but mainly either an unfinished or unresponsive script or a cinematic loop.

The first off being the very first challenge in ToB: The Retribution Challenge. For the most part it runs as normal endless spawning select waves till you kill them all. Now I've done both Good and Evil sets of waves but the big kicker is sometimes the waves just randomly stop. Like they stop spawning before the last wave. There are sometimes I wait a good 5 to 10 minutes straight and it resumes normally but a few times it's simply stopped and I can't do anything as the quest won't finish and the way out is blocked till it's done. I've done this several times with multiple parties and the same parties that got through it before but it's getting annoying (My friend apparently has this happen 85% of the time) Oddly enough it happens more in multiplayer rather than single player but I've gotten through it in multiplayer too so I'm trying to figure if its something other than multi or single.

Second is Rasaad's ToB Quest. I get through everything just fine but the SECOND I follow him through the portal to the Plane of Shadows; I can't move! I'm stuck in cinematic mode waiting for someone or something to appear but I just stand there! I waited 20 minutes and nothing. Restarted three times got the same issue. Couldn't continue the side quest... (This cinematic freeze ALSO happened with the Windspear Quest in which Garren Windspear NEVER returned to his house when his daughter was abducted. I worked around this by spawning him before hand and haven't had the even since.)

I have not modded my game as of yet (Still waiting for Ascension for EE; Last Boss was extremely disappointing without it) So I doubt anything is overwritten or missing in the scripts/programs.

    @Ultima75000, RE: Rasaad's ToB Quest.

Firstly, what platform are you running on? (Mac, Windows, etc.)

Do you have a save game from just prior to going through the portal? If so, can you upload that and let us take a look?

As for the lack of spawning during the retribution challenge, I've had the spawning pause briefly for a few seconds - I can only assume this is to give you time to finish up any remaining enemies before the next wave hits; except all the enemies in the current wave are dead. I can't recall a time when it paused for more than ten seconds. Unless there are reproducible steps there is not a lot they can do about it. Do you also have an affected save game from just prior to taking the challenge?

The waves in the retribution quest are handled very oddly, to the point that I'm surprised they work at all. It's even possible to complete that challenge without fighting anything at all if you rest a few times right at the beginning. It's got really convoluted in-game timers and variable wave sizes/difficulties based on how long it takes you to kill something rather than just a flat "create 20 dopplegangers, when those are dead make 20 saguahin" etc.

My best advice for now is to rest when there are no more enemies. This should expire any timers going on and either move you on to the next wave or finish the challenge outright. In addition, if you leave a summon where the magical gate locks you in, the graphic will still appear but the barrier will not, so you can walk in or out of the challenge room at your leisure.

Challenge of Retribution is thankfuly quite a rare occurence.

For the rest: I run windows 7 and I've tried several save games.

The farthest back is the auto save right before entering the mines, then I had 2 quick saves, 1 before meeting with the dwarf lord and 1 right before with the Algoroth encounter (I can't save any close to the portal)

I have a realtively geared out party. I'm not sure if free action rings or anything debuffs stop myself. I tried a work around but I can't find the Plane of Shadows AR????. Excluding that I don't know whats left. I'll attach a pic soon.

Here is where I keep getting stuck.

Can you zip and attach the most recent saved game from before entering the portal and describe exactly what causes this behavior - i.e. which dialogue choices etc.

Ok I barely worked around it but I will redo the quest with the same party to test it out again. I simply ran through the portal before the scripted talks. Didn't freeze when I manual ran through it. Had to do the same thing on the exit.

What you describe should not be possible. The portal isn't opened *until* the cutscene, which interrupts all player action.
It ends when Alorgoth and Yxtrazzal have fled through the portal, at which point you can follow them, assuming you can finish off or evade their minions somehow.

I've put an additional safeguard in the cutscene but you must've done something very odd to be able to have done what you did to get hung there.

Sorry, I mean't was I did reach that cutscene, I did evade most of them and ran through. Everytime I kill everyone in front of the gate and Rasaad talks to me about going in alone is when I freeze as I enter the portal after saying I'm going with him. I don't freeze when I click it, only after talknig to Resaad and the cutscene puts me through itself. I had the same issue on the way out as the cutscene with the shades attacking Alorgoth runs me through the pillar again and I freeze so I simply just ran through the portal before the shades said crap about Alorgoth not keeping his promise.

Can you post a screenshot or the exact text that triggers the freeze, please (especially if you don't have a saved game). The return glitch is known and has a workaround as per http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/25473/rasaad-quest-wheel-of-obliteration

I'm not sure if text it's text or a trigger, its the portal fade in and fade out. I can always get through the chats and fights. It's the fade in fade out like that of Irenicus Beginning Dungeon Portal. the issue is when it fades back in it doesn't give me my controls back and I'm sitting waiting for someone something to either walk out and do something or spit out whatever it's supposed to say. The screenshot I posted earlier is where I'm sitting at every time I enter that portal; funny thing is with the workaround I did was to RUN past every, skip the fight and charge through. Then I fade in game and get control instantly.

However when I actually fight and kill everyone THEN follow Rasaad it freezes. The line he says right before I hit end dialogue and it escorts my party in is useally the "Then onward, into the Plane of Shadows" from Rasaad. It then sits then uncontrollable shown by my previous screenshot.

I've tested this on both multiplayer and single player. Multiplayer was where it first happened and I was forced to do a work around. Single Player it happened once (or twice I forgot) but went through a bit smoother. I still had the wheel problem too but the work around only worked for single player.

I'll redo the scenario once I get the time again as I deleted that really glitchy party/game.
