I like Drow, I'm just saturated on them.
Viconia was an excellent Drow. One of her great appeals in BG2 was that she was so much a product of how she was treated and what society expected of her, both in the Underdark and on the surface. A lot of her uniqueness is the fact that she is of a unique race that isn't playable or accessible.
So... I have to ask... Why does everybody want to play a Drow? It's exotic and different? I doubt it's going to be when you find the D&D RP universe populated with more Drow than Dwarves.

    You mean DDO?

@Talvrae, BG happens more or less 20 years after the time of troubles, exactly in the year of 1370, if Sarevok's diary we found ingame is a trusted source.

I don't know if Jarlaxe already has any relation with Artemis at this time, but he's already a famous mercenary on underdark at least, cos viconia has a lot of info about him when he appears.

To add info, when we meet drizzt after leaving underdark, he's just comming back from a trip to the ten towns of the north (if i'm not wrong).

I don't know what other ppl gonna think, but a chance to replace Drizzt with Artemis as the help against Bodhi for a evil party would be awersome.

Why is everyone calling me a drizzt fanboy? I said I wanted a drow campaign not a drizzt campaign. I am completely ambivilent on the issue of drizzt. I dont want a drizzt clone, I dont want a good drow.
I have never read a single drizzt book, I wouldn't even know where to start.
Famous characters like elminster and drizzt feel like they belong to a different generation, and I feel they are too intertwined in thier own complicated storylines to ever catch up on what the hell is going on.

Also, why is everyone saying drizzt clones are so ubiquetous? I have never seen anyone play a drizzt clone, most of the time when he is mention in threads like this people just roll thier eyes. I guess young teenage roleplayers might make one, but they tend to be influence more by anime these days.
Most roleplayers I know would MUCH prefer making thier own characters than copying existing ones :/

@kamuizin Well had slept on it, the row invasion of Mithral Hall happened shortelly after the time of trouble, so yeah Jarlaxe and Artemis Entrerir are in relationship together by the time of BG1

@ajwz If your interested to start a look at Drizzt history, start with Homeland

I only play Drow if the campaign is set up for it, see little reason to play a Drow for sake of playing a Drow, last time I did play one, was a Wizard in a all Drow party, in a Drow Campaign, now that was fun, well up till the point they let someone who didn't understand how Drow worked, play AND be the High Priest, and got the entire party perm-killed (Cause no one wanted to argue with the player in real life)...

You would probably have to play the story of Drizzt trying to escape Menzoberranzan, or you could play as the outcast Drow that do mercenary work on the surface and in the Underdark as assassins. The group that helped Drizzt's Rival, Artemis Enteri. The second idea could make for a good games, as you plot to take down houses in the Underdark while holding missions on the surface.
