#7065 dupe Abazigal's Lair crash (spoilers)

[Deleted User][Deleted User] Posts: 0
edited December 2013 in BGII:EE Bugs (v1.2.2030)
I'm in Abazigal's Lair, trying to send the group of 'stoned' adventurers off to recover a Scroll of Reversal to free the dragon from her geas. I cast a Stone to Flesh scroll on one of them; they wake up; I send them on the quest. When they come back and the floating text 'Several days later' appears, the game crashes, every time. I've attached a saved game at the point just before I use the Stone to Flesh scroll. Halp! :)

P.S. Clean install; no mods.

    I think I may have figured out the problem.

    I was trying different things, and I rested before using the scroll. When I did, Cabrina teleported me to a conversation with L. Since the adventurers going off on their quest triggers a rest, I think there is a conflict between the adventurers trying to come back (and do their backstab/reload thing) and the event with Cabrina. After the event resolves, I was able to send the adventurers on their quest with no crash.

    As an aside, this final quest seems to be very similar to Rasaad's in that it's really hard to tell what dialogue options will keep the character in your game. There are few things as annoying as navigating a conversation tree a dozen times to figure out what they're looking for. This may be a case of the writers thinking 'well it's obvious, Rasaad would always respond to THIS approach', but that hasn't been adequately communicated through the game itself. I also don't understand why these NPCs have to have a 'do the right thing, or they're gone forever' storyline. While that makes for wonderful RP, it is kind of harsh for gameplay when it means you would have to go back and use another character in that role who is 3-4 million xp (and 15+ levels) behind the person you just lost.

    It's not me killing Bondari; it was crashing the game as the three adventurers walked up (before any dialogue occurred, and certainly before I changed into the Slayer). Per my post above, I think I've figured out the conflict. Attached is the last .dmp. When you use my savegame, if you rest (before using the Stone to Flesh), does it teleport you to Cabrina?
  • Also FYI, when I click on the 'find out more' button that pops up when BG2EE crashes, it takes me to a 404 page on the Beamdog site...no instructions.
  • Agreed...very strange. At least I can move on though. Thanks for checking into it!
  • As a side note, the adventurers going away and returning triggers the passage of game time, but doesn't actually rest you. Nearly everybody in my group was instantly fatigued when the adventurers came back. Should have mentioned this earlier, but I was so relieved to move on that I just played the game instead!

    I can't repro this. Either i rest, then Cabrina appears and teleports us, or I do Bondari's quest line.
    Pressing ctrl-t to pass days wouldn't summon Cabrina, only resting.
    But Bondari's questline wouldn't cause resting, just passing of time.
  • Sorry I can't give you steps to reproduce it...even my savegame worked fine for Gate70. I just tested it again, and got the same crash. My BG2EE install is clean from the Beamdog stand-alone installer, and then the patch installed - no mods, no EEKeepering, etc. The only other thing I can think of is that it might be related to the operating environment; I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1, an Intel Core i7 930 processor, 12GB of RAM, and dual ATi Radeon HD 5970s. Other than that, maybe I'm just holding my mouth wrong
  • @Gate70 I clicked the button and selected the 'Repair Install' option; it gave me a pop-up that said it was going to check the files etc. The progress bar at the bottom went through 'Checking Files', and then turned back into the Play button. Afterwards, I loaded the save and sent Nanoc and Company off on their adventure...crash again. As I said before, I was easily able to resolve it by resting beforehand and dealing with Hexxat's event; I only revisited this topic because someone posted a similar issue today and I thought it might be related.
  • I certainly did! :D

    Going to leave this here to see if we can get a few more posts in for it for more info. Otherwise we'll move it off to "Not an Issue" since we can't seem to re-produce it.

    For anyone who happens to come across this, if you read this and it's been more than a few days past this post, move it.

    I'm getting this bug as well. I don't have Hexxat in my party (and my game is far from unmodded, but since it's exactly the same problem as Cyteen's, I doubt that's the problem), and resting prevents the bug. I do have Dorn and Neera in my party, but I don't get any quest triggers on resting. I also have not rested in Abazigal's dungeon before this point.

    I have this problem too. My game is unmodded, and I don't have Hexxat in my party. The game crashes as soon as the dialogue with Bondari and his gang finishes, and before they return from their "quest" (note: I did the 'save the world' responses, and there was no reward save for the satisfaction of a job well done). On the first crash, it happened as soon as the cutscene was due to switch, and on the second crash, as the cutscene was emerging and 'several days later' comes up on the screen. My party hasn't rested in Abazigal's lair. My computer uses Windows 7. Hope you guys can come up with an answer and work-around.

    @Gate70
    I have attached the files as requested. Hope this helps.

    I've used your save without crash. I used Aerie's stone to flesh spell though (had to rest).

    But, your crash dump showed that this was the very same crash as the escape from Irenicus dungeon cutscene (7065).

    @Gate70 no problem, the debug dump helped :)

    @Gate70 and @Avenger-teambg

    Thanks for that. I was able to get around the crash by resting my party before restoring Bondari and his merry band.

    I also am hitting this issue, tried all of the "work arounds" as per Steam and nothing worked. Somehow I got past it by instead of offering to pay Bondari 100gp I picked the 1st option with no pay and the game continued. Bizarre :(
