#7313 [DORN] - Dorn's Quest in Lunia and not being able to interact with the Scroll of Retribution

I did search around and did not find anything on the bug I'm having with this one...

I got to the Pavilion of Rightous Wrath, had a small conversation that ended with Dorn deciding to have a go at diplomacy I and ended up killing the people there and a planetar that showed up...

Now after the fight I loot them, get the sand and ink for the Scroll of Retribution, but when I try to use the Scroll, either it says I'm too far away or it tries to move on a part of the wall that you can't even stand on.

And it doesn't count as if I've used the scroll as when I try to leave the place, Dorn asks me if I really want to leave before being finished with the scroll.

Here's a screenshot of where the game wants to try to stand to use the scroll

I just had the same issue it is a major bug. I got by it by talking to the planetar you might with the crusaders earlier you can convince her to give you an item that shows you are worthy or something. Then you can talk to the scroll mage and change the names from there. That is the only way the quest works.

@Kaltzor or @xzarsrevenge: Can either of you provide a saved game just prior to the issue and a set of steps to re-produce the effect you're seeing? That would help us get a bug filed for this.

I think I've figured out what causes this...you can actually KILL the 'scroll of retribution'.

If you do this, usually with some kind of AoE damage (cause I haven't managed to target it directly), you get the 'stutter-jerk but no dialog' issue.

    @Cyteen: Oh wow. GOOD CATCH.

@Gate70: Can you repo this? If so I think we've got the root cause.

I think I might've killed it without noticing it because I kind of used a time stop and threw out 2 Horrid Wiltings and 2 chain lightnings at least...

So I'm going to make the assumption that if it's killable, it's spawnable.

I'd guess that's a fairly common occurrence, since there is a group fight right there. That's how I noticed it the first time; then after beating the fight I saved, loaded the pre-fight save and just tossed a Cloudkill at it. Sure enough, *splat*.

Looking up around EEKeeper, It took only seconds to find, OHDSCROL is the creature name for a CLUAConsole spawn for it...

Really think it should be made unkillable though, as it's KIND of important for the quest...

We'll get the Devs to make the creature Unkillable, should be a fast fix.

Can someone post up a saved game I can attach to the ticket?

Filed as 7313. Will mark some of the scroll of retribution issues as duplicates of it.

Zipped save attached; this is with the scroll still 'alive'. Just use some AoE (like Edwin's wand of cloudkill) to kill the scroll.
  • Now with more attachment...
  • @Gate70 I entered the portal to Lunia as usual; killed off the Planetar to get the holy symbol of Tyr; killed the priest (that Dorn killed in SoA) in the southeastern area; corrupted the tree with the silver apples; and then killed the scribe and his henchmen. The only step necessary to kill the scroll is to target that area (where the scribe used to be standing) with some kind of AoE damage...cloudkill, fireball, what-have-you. You can even do it before the scribe is dead. As far as I can tell there aren't any 'steps', it's just that the scroll takes damage from AoE and gets killed (seems to take 10 damage every time, which is enough to kill it).
  • Ah, good call. Yeah, all the stuff I was using was 'hit everything', not 'hit only hostiles'.
