[Mod request] Stoneskin

UnumUnum Member Posts: 23
I'd like to see a mod that makes the mage spell Stoneskin transparent. That way I could see my mage in all his wonderful colors and not walking around looking like a statue.

    Agree 100%.

Mages suffer from a paradoxical condition. They have the coolest sprites (especially in Robe of Good/Neutral/Evil Archmagi,) but everything seems to want to alter their looks.

In BG1, Claw of Kazgaroth blurs them permanently. In BG2, Stoneskin makes them look like walking statues.

Not to mention various spell effects which blur them, fade them, etc.

    Just let them be!

I guess the point of magic is to eventually transcend the physical body and become a Demi-Lich. Looks don't matter. In theory. In practice, you want to see your Mage looking awesome in his robes. Especially since BG:EE has introduced new colours for the difference specialists.

The graphical effect of Stoneskin is hardcoded. Take it up with the developers in the Feature Request forum.

I've beem playing with DLTECP for some time and there are several versions of Stoneskin, some of which have some graphic components coded. If one were to remove those parameters, one theoretically could remove the stone effect. But it's not ideal :D

@Lathlaer Which graphic components do you mean? Afaik the "stone" colour change is bestowed by the stoneskin opcode, I don't think it's possible to separate it without an externalization or exe hack.

I don't know — there are several. I could post them once I get home.

No it's not. Sword Coast Stratagems has a component that removes the colouring of the spell.

No, it is hardcoded. The SCS component that does this is reliant on an exe hack (same one that's used in ToBEx) - but like with ToBEx, that component doesn't work with the new EE exes.

I am necro'ing this thread rather than starting my own, but as somebody who loves arcane casters, and has 4 in my current BG2 party, it is such a shame that I have 4 grey statues walking around all the time because Stoneskin is simply too good to not use all the time as a long term protection.

I wouldn't ask for Stoneskin to become transparent as OP suggested, since I appreciate that it is useful to be able to easily tell if your characters (and more importantly your enemies) have Stoneskins active, but I would like a future patch to make it an ingame option OR make it something that can be fixed with the SCS component.

Sorry if this is impossible mechanically, I don't understand game coding, but if it could be done for v1.4, I'd be one happy mage!

It is not hardcoded, by using Near Infinity you can remove the grey color effect. I remember doing it with the IWD Armor spell.

It is hardcoded, and always has been. It was "moddable" in the original BG2 thanks to ToBEx's exe hack. That ToBEx feature has not been added to the EEs yet.

@Heindrich - Since this would require a change to a hardcoded part of the game engine, it should probably go into Feature Requests, not a necro'ed modding discussion.
