Is it possible to get a critical failure when stealing from stores?

I'm afraid ever since I discovered the joys of stealing, I've never been the same again. Jan was very happy indeed now that Hexxat has gifted him with a bottomless sack for all those... liberated goodies.
I know no matter how high your Pick Pockets score is, you can still get a critical failure when stealing directly from npcs, however, is the same also true for stealing from stores?
I must have ransacked the stores of Athkatla yet Jan didn't fail a single time, so I guess you are safe provided you have the required score for "100%" stealing chance like ~225 with Bernard?

I think so. I believe the maximum effective Pick Pockets success rate is 99%; at least outside the stores. Most stores apply a penalty to your pick pockets skill making it harder to steal from them. If you overcome that penalty there may still be a 1% chance of failure, but I am not certain of this.

I heard if you do get a critical failure you are immediately teleported to the nearest Walmart - (in your pajamas of course) where you will suffer - you will all suffer...

As Tresset said, there's always a 1% chance of failure.

Some (most?) stores, however, have modifiers that will lower your starting score, so it's always a good thing to get your Pick Pockets score over 100% - thus your chances won't drop below 99%.

Something else you might already know: it's impossible to steal from the Adventurer's Mart.

Yes it is possible to fail, though 255 pick pockets makes it vanishingly unlikely to do so, regardless of store, and 256 pick pockets makes it impossible to succeed.

Since there isn't even a thieving icon on the Adventurer's Mart, isn't this self-evident?
