What Is The Monster I Am Thinking Of?

unkinheadunkinhead Member Posts: 107
I just was thinking on the old days of BG2 when i used to play, and i dimly remember a Huge monster (the size of a dragon - and maybe he was) I remember walking down, then having dialog with him, and then a huge fight, but if i remember correctly, something made him different from other dragons...lol...Well whatever monster im thinking of, its something that must be easily missed kinda, as i recently beat the game 3 times :D

I think it was....Three headed? No? i don't remember

It's not Firrkrag, Shadow Dragon, Irenicus Dragon, Watchers Keep Dragon, TOB Dragon, etc.

Does this sound like anything to you? I would like to fight it again. Maybe i am losing my mind idk. I think i saw it in a picture semi recently too... It is however possible that i am just remembering it wrong.

Is there a giant creature other than a dragon in the game?

Other than dragons, Demogorgon is the only other giant monster I remember. Maybe your memory has them jumbled up a bit? That happens to me sometimes; like when they're using the phones in The Matrix I keep expecting Keanu Reeves to travel in time.

Lmao, it could be...I just have this weird picture in my head of walking into the room, and the dragon or whatnot is in the absolute center of the room (squarish) (i believe it is a dragon now)

Idk, its not demomorgan...Im probably just losing it :D

The Ravager is pretty big too IIRC, but doesn't really fit the milieu description.

Either Demogorgon or a Chimera I think x)

Three heads sounds like a hydra and I'm not aware of any in BG.

I was gonna suggest Otyugh... they are the first big thing u see in BG 2 (3 heads, kinda), which is pretty intimidating and memorable if u don't know ur D&D lore, (I thought it would be more dangerous than it was).

However, if u talked to it, it's not an Otyugh, since I am not aware of any Otyugh chat, lol.

ps: Did anybody else see/think of "What is this Pokemon?" when they first saw the thread title? You know... from the anime series in the middle of the episodes? No...? just me? ok... I'll be quiet.

I thought it was going to be a guessing game thread, e.g. "I spy with my little eye, something starting with the letter B."

@TethorilofLathander there are Chimeras in BG2 nor in BG1, I wish there were some, must love that crazy monster!

Which actually is a thought. Could the OP be thinking of a monster in either of the IWD games or in Planescape? I mean, same engine (more or less) so memories might be jumbled. Just a though. There are Etins in IWD, aren't there?

I don't think there's anything in PS:T with 3 heads (unless he confused a Glabrexu with its raised claw hands as heads?), but maybe in IWD?

Not the Hell's trial dragon either?
And it wasn't someone who transformed into a dragon?
And it wasn't a wyvern like the one in the planar prison?
You're also not confusing dragon for some other insane monster like a demilich or gibberling?
Nor are you thinking of another game like Neverwinter Nights with Tymofarrar or some other one.

aw, I thought it was a riddle game

in case anyone else wants to play, I've got one!

    - I have a name
    - I have an ability that's unique to my species
    - I might look weak, but I can blind you

who am I? (spoiler tag the answer!)

Let's start with an easy one.

    Tentacles for a face
When I appear, for a reload you must brace
    My attacks cause stat drain
I'd like to nibble on your brain

I'll let someone else get this one. :)

@Nonnahswriter the ones that blind you are
    Smoke Mephits.

@Eudaemonium there are Glabrezu in Watcher's Keep, with Glabrezu animations too.

Ah, smoke, air... What is the difference, really? Your lungs consume it all, in the end... Though some more reluctantly than others.

    @Nonnahswriter

I think you were actually right, smoke mephits go invisible and air mephits blind. Kinda backwards from the way it should be. Though no, it's not Cespenar :p

    Kobold Commando?

@nano, nope, the Smoke Mephit blinds, the Air one casts Blur and the Steam Mephit I think casts Invisibility.
EDIT: Maybe the one that blinds you was a Sucker Mephit.
    @Nonnahswriter, no lung, my liver :) :P

    Kobold Commando?

    Correct!

Next riddle. Let's branch out a bit.

I can't say that I'm balanced or fair
Camping out with 4 of my kin in this lair
To hurt me in melee, weapons of gold, iron and silver are best
So I can't help but wonder why I keep one in my desk

    Karoug

    HATED that guy.
  • nanonano Member Posts: 1,632
    @CrevsDaak
not in my game. air blinds and casts blur, smoke only goes invisible. steam stuns (really dangerous for a solo char)
  • CrevsDaakCrevsDaak Member Posts: 7,155
@nano well, in vanilla it was something like that, Steam ALWAYS stunned.
In the first level of Watcher's Keep there is a Mephit (that will only spawn if you are low level) that casts no-save Blind on you, and it's name starts with S (it is not the Ooze Mephit on the same level and spawning rates).
