Clua Console Won't Open

Hiya, I'm not actually playing with the Enhanced Edition but I've been trying all morning to get the Clua Console to open. I've edited the Baldur.ini file but I can't seem to use Ctrl-Tab to open Clua Console in the game. Any suggestions?

Is the addition to the .ini file
Debug Mode=1 or DebugMode=1? Or something else? I've tried both and neither work.
    Ctrl-Space just pauses and unpauses.

Might this be the same problem I have in the EE version, i.e. do you have multiple languages enabled? As I understand it, I have to disable my Icelandic keyboard if I want the CLUA Console to activate (in the EE version), and that's just not something I'm ready to do lightly. I might think differently if I encountered an unacceptable situation, like a game stopping bug, but until/unless that happens, no cheating for me.

By the way, I could have sworn that the way to activate the CLUA Console in vanilla BG was, as you state, Ctr-Tab. Can't be certain, though, nor can I be bothered to test in my vanilla game. :)

Yeah I posted the multi language conflict but windows lets you change alternate keyboard to ctrl shift space so I just did that and now both work.

There's plenty of threads on the syntax but make sure you quote and space properly.

I don't have multiple keyboards enabled, I'm fairly sure they're all disabled bar one. It was definitely ctrl-tab for "Vanilla BG" but no matter which I try neither will work... It's very frustrating.

@LadySanctuary you've forgot to add a space between Debug and Mode. It is correct to place it under Program Options so I suspect that this is the only problem.

I've edited that and it still won't work! This is really frustrating me.

Still not working? I've tried in vanilla BG2 some days ago and it took me ages to make it work.
You've also have a Cheats=1 under Game Options, maybe when both are active they cause trouble.

Try control-space instead of control-tab, perhaps. I know for myself, at least, it's definitely control-space to open the console.

It won't let me upload it, says the file type isn't allowed? It automatically used notepad. I've been trying both control-space and control-tab for ages.

You have to zip it to attach it. Try getting textpad or notepad++ to look to see if any hidden characters etc are throwing things off. Computer programs aren't humans, they don't handle the unexpected or spelling mistakes well :)

Installing the game in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) on Vista or more is prone to different kinds of issues. Windows protects this directory hierarchy and this makes finding or editing user files (it means after the initial setup) problematic. You might think it's edited while the game actually uses another file in your "virtual store", as Microsoft calls it.
You can find detailled explanation and workaround in this topic. Read chapter 2 more specifically.

Hi LadySancuary, I know this is an old post, but just in case this is still a headache for you, I think I figured it out. If you are using Vista, go to C:\Users\(You User Name Here)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate You will find the actual Baldur.ini file that your computer uses when you run the game. Edit this file, not the one in the program files, and it should work. Alternately, you could take all the advice out there and reinstall into a folder that is not program files.

Hey, I have been playing this game on android. Icewind dale ee ver 1.3.0, and I am unable to bring the console anyway. The Ctrl key works fine in other apps, the keyboard works fine in game, I can use h to bring up the HUD, I for inventory, etc, but using Ctrl combos, it doesn't work. Now I have been to every post and did many edits to the baldur.INI file to no avail. Please tell me someone of it can be done.

I have a Windows 7 but my dad has a vista and we were both having problems getting the clua console to come up. He discovered that if he ran it as administer it would show up and it now works for me too. Which to run it as administer, you have to be on a user/account that has administrative privileges. After that you have to right click the program file or shortcut and you should see "run as administrator".
You'll just need to make sure that the baldur.ini file has the Debug Mode=1
This worked for me and I hope this helps, if not, Im sorry that i gave you false hope. Also mine isnt the enchanted edition either. I wanted to post this somewhere because i remember looking all over for a way to fix it.

If this is original BG, then it probably installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\. Windows 7 and later locks that down pretty tight. If you make a new folder, C:\GameInstalls\ for example, and reinstall the game into there, you should be able to get rid of the Admin requirement.

I believe I got around the administrator problem by copying the baldur.ini file to a non-read-only file, editing it there, and then copying it back to the read-only folder where I couldn't edit it before.
