I'd like a "go away and make some tea" button

What I mean is, I'd like a way of cutting back on those annoying moments after fights where you are sitting around and waiting for negative conditions to wear off and area effect spells to stop ticking so you can actually save and continue the game. Maybe something which automatically detects no hostile enemies and ends short term negative (and positive) effects automatically.

Alternatively, if this doesn't sit well with code, the a "go away and make tea" button is a serious suggestion.
A button which advances time say 1 full turn immediately, without having to use console commands like ctrl-t.

aka the "Break out the Ale" button for dwarves or "Smoke a pipe of pipeweed" for halflings.

Yes please! Its really annoying for the times where you've done an incendiary cloud x3 chain contingency and everything has already died but ya can't get to the loot!

One of the most annoying things is being unable to save when there's a cloud effect around. I think this might be a good idea but it would have to work for only some things. Hold person there would be no problems with but one of the things about spells like horror is that NPCs under the influence will often stumble upon more hostile creatures and have to fight them. So I think it would make sense to have a time advancement button but retain the limitation on in for if you don't have full control of your party members.

The issue with this is trap dodging. If there are no enemies present, just go spring a bunch of horrific traps, press the button, and then enjoy an instant cleanup.

I can imagine one sort of situation where this is a problem. The battle is 'finished' but there are npcs off screen walking towards you - allowing the player to exploit the fog of war in yet another way.

There are a wide variety of ways this could possibly exploited by using it in a way that was not intended. If it's really that big of a deal, just use rest, or failing that, actually get up and go do something else for a little bit and set the auto-pause to "enemy sighted" so if something shows up to attack you then you don't get blindsided while you're elsewhere.

That would be a funny sight. A halfling who is confused or drunk or under some negative effect sitting around smoking some pipeweed while wearing off bad effects.

I agree with this! When something like this! When we play around the table and this happens, we are not forced to role-play for ten minutes waiting for it to end, dm goes; "Wanna skip half an hour?" and we say; YES!

I don't think it's annoying. Yeah, you have to wait a little, but that's part of the game. Otherwise it would be like a movie, skipping to the "important" parts.

ToEE has a "dismiss spell" selection that worked well for this..

Agree. It's not a big deal, and infact if the player wants to avoid the delay,it might change which spells they choose to use.

I believe @pkloop suggested the better idea. Have a dismiss spell option so that you can get rid of your spells fast when needed.

About your enemy spells, cast a dispel magic or some other spell against them... Gust of wind or zone of sweet air to disperse cloud effects, for instance...

@smeagolheart :D The Forgotten Realms doesn't have tobacco. Pipeweed is the FR version. When they brought out the Maztica set, the new continent had "Tabac", which was tobacco by another name. They also had chocolate, tomatoes and hot peppers- they showed up in the Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue.
