The Boomerang Dagger looks like BG1's Dagger of Venom that you can buy to Tharon Fuirim (was that spelled correctly?) in Beregost.
was this change intentional? I mean, there's an icon of it's own since vanilla, why not to use it?

    No, it was not an intentional change and it is being worked on.

    It was reported as issue 7127 in the bugtracker.
