Efreet Behavior?

TressetTresset Member, Moderator Posts: 8,268
So I summoned an Efreet to fight some gauths and I noticed something about its behavior that raised an eyebrow. The efreet was heavily damaged in the fight and it was forced to revert to gaseous form. The odd thing is that as soon as it came out of gaseous form it was hostile towards me! I am not sure if this is a bug or intended behavior, but I am inclined to believe it is intended because of the efreet's spell description where it says "Wizards are warned to be careful of this spell, for a mistreated efreeti will turn on his master at the first viable opportunity." In any case that kinda sucks because this would be an incredible spell if you got to keep the efreet on your side after it comes out of gaseous form. I find it incredibly annoying when enemies summon these things because they just won't die! It seems more than a little unfair that they get 4 efreet for the price of one while you get one efreet and then 3 hostile efreet to deal with. So thoughts anyone?

    I always stay away from efreeti and djinni summoning because of their nasty natures. I recall summoning an efreet and the planetar. It shoots a fireball and the planetar turns hostile! When the planetar strikes back at it, it too gets angry and turns hostile.

    When the enemy mage casts the spell, the best way to counter is Death Spell. No more gaseous form and rebirth.

    Nishruu and Hashrekar are good for vanilla, with SCS, it's a different story, but their immunity to magic is sometimes great to make them tank an enemy spellcaster.

    I think I reported it looong time ago on the redmine.
    But I just noticed that I can't log in there anymore, so I can't check.

    @SpaceInvader‌ you are correct. #4405

    However I think the issue here isn't what creature file they come back as (your issue is fixed according to the tracker) but rather that they come back and are hostile.

    I think it's intended; it's stated in the spell description that "they must be treated well." Though I find it annoying, too.

    "For some reason, whenever I send my at-best loosely bound and decidedly evil fire genie on suicide missions he gets all miffed and tries to kill me... is this a bug?"

    Just kidding ;)
