Is There Any Equivalent of a Spoiler-Free Codex

Hey,
First time playing BG-BG2. I'm enjoying the story so far, but I feel like I would enjoy it even more with an in-depth source of background info about the world and various characters in it (basically a codex like you see in more modern RPG's). The in-game journal is better then nothing, but beside basic plot points it seems a little thin. Obviously, there is a ton of lore on various internet sites but the danger lies in running into spoilers regarding the actual game. Any recommendations of where I might be able to go to address this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. And yes, I am aware of the background info in the manual.

Not sure where you can get these as e-books these days.
If you are looking for a little more information on specific NPCs, you can read their biography in game under their record screen.
