The General Suggestions and Ideas Thread

CaloNordCaloNord Member Posts: 1,809
I don't see one of these in the top 5 pages of discussion so I thought I'd start one.

A thread where you can discuss general suggestions and ideas without starting a new thread and bringing it to the official attention of Beamdog. Perhaps we can help you refine your idea, perhaps it's been mentioned before, here's the place to find out. Pretty much anything goes here. Anything you'd like to discuss or idea's you'd like to fly, GO FOR IT!
:D

I have a couple I may have mentioned over the past few weeks in other threads;

1.) Spears - A slight increase in damage to the basic spears. As it has been pointed out, it should do slightly more damage then a quarterstaff.

2.) One or two more uses for the Known Alignment spell. I love that it was included in the game and it can even be used in one quest but that is about it.

3.) Infravision. Does it even do anything? I have no trouble with a human Paladin slaughtering everything he encounters in the middle of the night with or without it.

4.) A couple of new Bardic instruments, as a Bard player I would love to have just a couple more, mainly for Role Play values then anything else! Do love me an instrument!! :)

Cheers guys! Look forward to hearing your thoughts! :)

Well, this thread can turn out to be a good idea but I still think that in terms of Feature Requests (if compared with general questions), it's better to have one thread for each request.

The reason, to me, is that questions (and answers) can stay relevant not only at the time of their appearing but also even 5 years later.

Feature Requests come, people discuss them, the Devs say their word, and either the particular request is supported or not. It's much more convenient to see all the reactions to a particular request in one thread so that other request do not distract. And if the general consensus is that a particular request is a "NO", the thread just gradually goes to the back pages of the forum.

This is true, I did consider that, I just wanted a place for me to ask a myriad of things over coming weeks without needing to spam the boards with my senseless drivel ;) That and many things have been asked and answered before but people don't look for the answers. :)

Still! Can remove it if you'd wish my good man! :) 'Tis up to you :D Moderator's discretion :)

No-no-no, I don't want this thread to be removed :) Any idea should be tested and may be it will turn out great.

Your first 4 suggestions are good indeed and I support all of them.

    Oh sweet! :)

I think they may add to it a little. For me, it's more subtle changes that make the game better for me. I don't want a massive revolutionary total-conversion. Just a few more things to increase depth.
Fighting at night for a human with no light source and no magical aid would be quite difficult for example. At the moment I'm not even sure what the helm of infravision does, when Minsc could have Helm of Balduran and do even better at night...

Anyway, if it turns out people want to use this thread, that would be cool, if not, just as cool. ;)
I'm about as laid back as you can get. :)

What about the pathfinding algorithm (particularly regarding party movement)? Is this better in the new patch? I hate it when my party bump into each other and some of them then decide it is a much better idea to take a wide detour running through completely different corridors (setting off traps and running into monsters at that) instead of patiently waiting their turn even if the other party member is slower than themselves. I have to reinforce movement orders all the time by just right-clicking on the same target space over and over again to make them reconsider. This should not be necessary.

I've long since thought that could do with updating. I sometimes have to do the same thing you do or just move my party around one at a time because it's the only way they can get where I want them to go.
I think they were planning to update it but I don't have access to the Beta version so I'm not rightly sure if it's been fixed yet. @bengoshi‌ might have an idea about that though. :)

(P.S. I altered the original thread text to serve it's purpose a little better, thanks for the idea!) :D

The pathfinding is one of the reasons I use Ctrl-J obsessively...

Spears should do 1d8 slashing and piecing damage, as per real life, where they are very much slashing as well as piercing. Technically also blunt at the other end...
  • CaloNordCaloNord Member Posts: 1,809
I used to use Ctrl + J a lot, a slip of the finger led to a rather messy accident with Minsc once. I was a little disheartened watching Minsc explode like a balloon. Judging by the "Better part of valor, better part of valor" chant so was someone else we know.

I'm all over that. I have a Bard with a spear as you know, I was wondering why I keep hitting the armoured man on the head with the shaft of the spear. ;) Never the less, quarterstaves are 1d6, spear should be 1d8. :) Is it possible to assign a random damage attribute? Not all of them at once, just one of 1d8 piercing, 1d8 slashing or 1d8 blunt? To go with the various attack styles of the spear?

As far as I know, the Beta version has no improvements in terms of the pathfinding.

    Yet.

We've had a couple of other people ask over the last few days about a visible AoE indicator. (My first post).
Personally, since I made that post many months ago I'm still not opposed to it but I'm not as all for it as I used to be.
I've gotten used to the 'guestimate factor' involved in massively destructive area of effect magic. I'm also not sure if it would be worth the amount of effort it would take to get it into the game, the pay off not being THAT great. :)
I'd rather they spent the effort doing something a little more useful. But that's a personal opinion at this point. :)

I going to request what we all want, but won't ask for. Bigger boobs (for both men and women; I'm not sexist).

Bahahaha!! Get the Viconia mod for Skyrim. They are so large they affect the local gravity.
  • meaglothmeagloth Member Posts: 3,806
I like the random different damage types for weapons. That would emulate reality a lot better. You don't *just* stab with a shorts-word. People also forget that pretty much everything has a blunt end. I would put a 5% chance of blunt damage for every weapon.
  • CaloNordCaloNord Member Posts: 1,809
Yea, especially given the attack animations sometimes look like they are trying to use it as such. Especially with the spears.
I know you can assign a weapon a chance to inflict but that is in addition to it's base damage type. I'm not sure if you can have it randomly select a damage type for each attack.

It's actually pretty likely ideas will get lost in a larger thread; it's much, much more efficient to post feature requests in separate threads. This makes it much easier for us to see and sort through. :)

Yea we will be, I just wanted a place to float ideas without needing to spam new threads for you guys. :) Especially as far as learning what can and can't be done with the engine. Like I didn't know two handed and single handed was hard coded and unlikely to ever be changed. Seemed like a waste of your guys time. :/ I really don't want to waste your time! :O Once people tell me it's an okay idea and can be done I'll start it's own thread and let you guys know if you like?
Or, alternatively you can close this one. ;) Up to you guys! I'm easy! ;)

Edit: @LiamEsler‌ Actually, would it be better if we moved this to General Discussion? It's mostly for talk anyway, rather then actual requests.
