Is it just me or did anyone else...

...read Firebead Elvenhair as Firebeard Elvenhair.

So his beard is on fire and he made a wig from hair stolen off (or perhaps donated from) elves.

Also is it just me or does he come off lecherous when he says " My, you have come into your own, if you would permit an old man jealous of youth to say so... Hmm"

Bahah! Nope I read it like that for years. It was only a few months ago infact that I noticed I was doing it wrong! :D
Having now had that pointed it out... it is rather seedy... especially when he's checking out my young, beautiful Gnome Foxy Boxer... o.O
He can get his own scroll from now on, its obviously a trap.

That's good to know. I also assume that it's not just me who finds beholders sexy.

All those high level spells are enough to make to anyone blush.

It's the elvenhair part of his name that throws people off.

When a person reads, or quickly scans words as you do during videogames, you only pick up a few easily recognizable syllables usually the first and last, and fill in the rest.

So with Firebead Elvenhair. You read Fire then hair. In a fantasy setting Elv is mostly elven or elves as no one really writes out eleven, the other main option for those three letters together. (Elvis is the other, but only when talking about music).

Your mind has already put fire and hair together, so reading be*d you think bed see an A fill it as beard due to the synonym with hair. Your mind is saying beard makes the most sense in the context that was provided to you with all the letters that have been given to you.

Btw, I always hated the name Elvenhair. Probably why I always kill him in Beregost. A family name like that should be wiped from the face of faerun.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense either way...

I did it too once. I'm not native English speaker, thought.

Elvenhair is a stupid name since they're all elves, all their hair is automatically elven barring some bizarre polymorph hair spell accident.

So maybe Firebead's family were originally elven hairdressers, and the name got shortened in time? And they named their son Firebead cause they liked to put "fiery" jasper beads in his hair when he was a child... ok that last one is a stretch.

A magical bead that bursts into flames once it is thrown. OR a bead that has a colouring and hue resembling fire.

^ an anagram of his name is "Behave Friendlier" with a leftover A, which suits that quote well.

Bloody hell ... and here's me always thinking he liked his bread well cooked, with sliced chili and a sprinkling of paprika on top. Turn's out it isn't his bread that's fiery after all. Speed reading has a lot to answer for :P

Maybe he braids his elven hair with firebeads. It's what all the stylish old wizards are wearing.

For those interested or curious (although for the record I'm another firebeard member):

Firebead in this sense probably means he has a propensity for casting the fireball spell. Most of the time the fireball spell for D&D is described in fiction (not in the spell description), it's described as throwing a bead of fire towards a particular area before it explodes.

Now back to LCS watching, Mass Effect playing and forum lurking

I think he uses a fire spell in Aganazzar's Scorcher doesn't he? Or as I know it "the scourge of the upwardly murderous level 1 charname"

Man I've made a lot of posts in this thread why is firebead so fascinating
