Minsc, before his head injury.

I've been thinking about this a fair bit, I've been writing banters for an NPC I've been working on and I wanted to know what you guys think Minsc was like BEFORE he got his little head knock and went a little... nuts.
You know the deal! ;)

HAHA! I always imagined him not quite as unhinged as he is now but big, loud, boisterous! Full on and strong. I'm also not sure about Boo. Was Boo from before his injury and his animal companion or after when he thought it could bloody speak to him... Hahaha

@meagloth I agree whole heartedly. Boo is Boo and Minsc is Minsc .... except after the bangs on the head the volume control now goes up to 11.

I hear he had long red hair and then decided to cut/shave it all off :D

    That never happened... ever!

Actually, it was confirmed in an interview with one of the original devolers that Minsc purchased boo from a merchant who convinced him that he was a miniature giant space hamster, while on his dajemma(sp?) with dynaheir. I don't remember where the interview is though. I think it may have been in @bengoshi‌'s 15th aniversarry thread.

I would guess less delusional, since he lost a heaped helping of wisdom. Head injuries are difficult to predict though.

@meagloth‌ WOO! Thank you muchly! :D

I assume at one point he had a reasonable wisdom score. :P

:D Minsc and Boo just ARE now, I get that and I like that but that said it's still fun to delve into things like this! :D
I can't imagine how dull he must have been.... ;)

Something closer to a normal Ranger. He has 2 more points of wisdom in BG2, maybe he is recovering?

I believe he was a fine lad. Too bad he became aggressive after his incident. In my current playthrough, just because i insulted his... dumbness... he attacked me in Nashkel, and forced me to slay him! Poor boo, where did you run off to, after that? I wonder...

@Demonoid_Limewire You killed Minsc *gasp* Shame on you! Now you can never sleep again because one night Boo is going to creep into your bedroom, bite into your jugular then dance on the bedclothes while you bleed to death!

But i had no choice! Just because i called him dumb or something, he wanted to kill me! It was self defense!

Haha! @Metalloman‌ I like that! It does explain why Boo is the only one who seems to reign in Minsc' brutal side sometimes! Hahaha besides, it's not unheard of from rangers to communicate with animals... ;)

Ahahahah!! Oh lord! Game of Baldur's Gate - Boo in your throat.

Surely Minsc as a ranger could estabilish a bond with his animal companion, but I believe that the head blow he took carried him to that condition where part of his personality is embodied in Boo. :)

Literally, or just how Minsc perceives it to be?
  • CaloNordCaloNord Member Posts: 1,809
Verrry interesting. I like that idea. An interesting side effect of having a bond as a ranger. *cough cough!* ( Warning: Anything you say can and probably will be used in future NPC's ) *cough cough cough* Now we have that out of the way...

I'd also wondered if animal companions 'talk' or more impart ideas, feelings and images to their ranger. An animal wouldn't know words as we do but may be able to communicate it's intent more through images and feeling then "I don't like that, bill. . ."

Honestly, I think Minsc was a very noble ranger beforehand, albeit still quite zealous and overly loyal to his "witch." After his head injury, he lost some of his intelligence and memory, along with developing numerous idiosyncratic behaviors, including his apparent delusion with Boo. I wouldn't consider Minsc to have been overly intelligent before his brain damage, but he was certainly more controlled and self-contained. I suspect his berserk ability stems directly from his injury, which then manifests itself whenever his "witch" is endangered.

My guess is that he had a full fledged afro and wore the finest silk pantaloons in town. Chances are, however, that he was even dumber before his head wound than now.

Did you HAVE to mention that???

Is it ironic to anyone else that a character with such personal magnetism and one of the highest personality-filled characters was given a 9 Charisma?
  • CaloNordCaloNord Member Posts: 1,809
Ahh, the mystique of Minsc and Boo, destroyed in an evening. :D

I dunno, charisma is more than just appearance or personal magnetism, people's confidence in you also factors in. So Minsc could indeed have that personality and amazing physique but would you follow him as a leader? lol, no

@Anduin‌ managed to make me feel really bad for Minsc for a while there! :D
Why is he not in an asylum? Tiax was raving on a road side and got thrown in there, Minsc talks to his hamster all the time, quite loudly, and no one bats an eyelid. . .

Well, Tiax is rather unassuming and small, so people wouldn't view him as much of a threat. Meanwhile, Minsc (according to his in-game and canonical descriptions) is a damn-near giant of a man with Herculean strength and the emotional stability of a barbarian.

Exactly. Show of hands for the first volunteer to wrestle this huge berserker into a strait jacket...
