Everyone can debate on who can win in a fight versus a Beholder and a Lich, but what about the bottom feeders of the XP chain? Which one holds the glory over all other minor annoyances.
If one of these creatures were pitted against each other, which one would come out on top. Elite versions do not count. Cast your vote, explain it and may the loser be chunked by the lvl 1 Warrior with a dagger.

But they really just want a hug.
Wild dog has 9 health vs gibberlings 8 health. It also has 19 thac0 vs 20 thac0. However, it only does 1d4 damage vs a gibberlings 1d8. Overall I would say that the gibberling is more likely to win.
Gibberlings for me. They even have their own theme song! How cool is that?

btw wild dogs have been known to eat my mages if I'm not careful.
I wanna look evil damn it!! :P
I'm actually changing my mind it is kinda cute. . .
Who could bring harm to such a beautiful creature!
Ashamed of you dog people!
Wild Dog: AC 7, thac0 19, deals 1d4 dmg, has 9 hit points
I have to admit that these two are pretty evenly matched but it comes down to this:
p(gibberling hits dog) = 0.40, average dmg = 4.5 so the expectation of dmg/round = (0.40)(4.5) = 1.8 --> the dog should last 5 rounds
p(dog hits gibberling) = 0.60, average dmg = 2.5 so the expectation of dmg/round = (0.6)(2.5) = 1.5 --> the gibberling should last 5.33 rounds
Thus in the long run the average gibberling will outlast the average wild dog --> gibberlings win.
I did not take into account critical hits, of course.
Gibberling has a 5% chance of doing double damage and then each doubled result of 10, 12, 14, or 16 damage has a 12.5% chance of happening, which we will condense into the simpler "50% chance of killing the dog" so p(gibberling one-shots the dog on a critical hit) = (0.05)(0.50) = .0025
The dog, on the other hand, will have a only a (0.05)(.25) = .00125 chance of killing the gibberling with a critical hit.
Although the gibberling is twice as likely to kill the dog with a critical hit, both of them have such a low chance of happening that we may ignore them, which is why I didn't worry about accounting for critical hits.
