Changing kits can be done with scripts, but there's no spell effect for it.

An idea for Kensai weapon focus:
-Apply Luck's Proficiency Removal effect at every level through the CLAB to negate normal proficiency gains. Are there any other side effects of this?
-Give them an ability at level 1 to choose a weapon, providing them with a level scaling ability for that weapon.
-At each appropriate level they will be able to reactivate the ability to remove the old proficiency effect, gain the new level of proficiency, and do the same for single/two-handed weapon style, whichever is appropriate for that weapon.

I suppose you could trigger a script from a spell effect, right...?

Only indirectly. For example by creating or summoning a helper creature, executing the desired action and removing the helper creature afterwards.
