This is one for all the DMs out there - it's not covered by BG type game rules.

What happens when you set of a fire ball in ice, or in a heavy snow drift, or on a snow covered mountain? Can you set off an avalanche? Does the snow melt? Does your party need to learn to swim? Will the water re-freeze, and do we need to carry skates?

Inquiring minds wish to know ... well my inquiring minds wishes to know!

p.s. all serious replies gratefully received, and all silly replies also gratefully received.

When i saw the title of this thread, and that the thread was made by you, i thought it was about making a Song of Ice and Fire themed party in IWDEE :p

I'd say the fireball deals lower damage, and all of the snow melts.

It is possible to set off an avalanches as much as you can set a forest on fire. It depends on conditions in the local and if a a 10' cube fire effect is enough to make it happen. Otherwise you just get a small area of melted ice :)

Anyway in a game I was a DM the group was extremely careful with fire spells in forests, mainly if they knew there was a druidic circle or faeries living there :) Really they always took some time putting of any fires they started.
