Quick console problem

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
The tree of life seem to have bugged. Killed parasite down south, the path won't open. After watching a movie I can't see how it can be anything beside a bug.

So I googled and people suggested I use console to get the nuts(?) I need to progress in the story.

Problem is, when I try to add the 'Program Options', 'Debug Mode', '1', line in the baldur.ini file it just get reset (the baldur.ini file is back to default) whenever I open the game afterwards.

    Well, did you ever get the nuts from the tree? You can get them by going back up the stairs to the area where you had to stop the waterfall. To get them you have to click on the base of the tree as in the screenshot.

    I am not entirely sure what is wrong with enabling the console but if the game is resetting the ini file then you are definitely doing something wrong.

    I'm not sure this will help or not but try copy pasting this into your ini file: 
    	'Program Options',	'Debug Mode',	'1',
