I'm assuming you are seeing that in BG2EE, the reason being the game hasn't been updated in 10 months so its descriptions aren't in some cases as up-to-date as BGEE's.

The +4 Thac0 bonus has been provided since BG2 original so its likely not going to be changed. These are the BGEE descriptions.

Clerics played aggressively are about the best low level characters period. They do get eclipsed by arcane casters pretty badly towards the XP cap for BG1, but they can still be pretty effective.

One idea you might consider is a bit weird, but you could dual to fighter with a Cleric of Lathander. Priest HLA are pretty underwhelming imho, and really, you will have a veritable mountain of spells if you took 18 wis (end up at 23 or 24 iirc) for buffing. Then again, it'll take awhile to get your abilities back, but you would be an excellent clericy fighter. Lathander is very actively anti-evil, so it fits good with your theme.

A FC multi is a great tank, try dwarf maybe. Saving throws will be epic!

Dualing out of a caster class is generally a bad idea. Going from Fighter to Cleric makes much more sense.

You could dual class as a priest of lathander to a fighter at maybe level 11. That way you get two uses out of the Boon of Lathander and your downtime as a fighter isn't too bad (1 million xp). You miss out on the fighters additional health but the APR gains you'll make will make it worth it. Since the Boon stacks it means for instance that (with grandmastery in quarterstaff) you could be using a quarterstaff and still have 10APR with Improved Haste.

@elminster‌ Must be a 1.3 thing, because the description I posted came from BGEE v1.2. I'm glad to see that far from taking it away, they actually codified it!

Meh, it depends entirely on your goal, and clerics are a bit lackluster at the later bg2 stages.
