Fallen ranger dual-class exploit?

I was testing disintegrate at the Lonelywood Inn, when I noticed that my ranger 7 / cleric 15 dual-class character had suddenly gained an unexpected level up. Lo and behold, she had turned into a fallen ranger 15 / cleric 15 multi-class:

This is basically 170000 free XP, not that I need any of the ranger abilities or spells at this point in the game!

Of course I will reload and not use that, as it's clearly an exploit. Is this well-known? Is it fixed in IWD:EE?

This is on GOG's version of the game with a recent (I believe latest) version of the IWD1 Fixpack.

@Zeckul, is that screenshot from the original supposed to be before or after? Just wondering since it is still dual-class and there's no fallen status. I don't recall ever seeing that in the original.
