IWD:EE - Game crashes on start

in Troubleshooting
I get to the screen where I can choose between running the original game and HOW. HOW works fine but whenever I click on the original game the game crashes.

Does anyone have any ideas? Have you encountered anything similar?

    Which platform are you running the game on? (Windows, Mac, Linux)

    Also, are you playing the version from Beamdog, or the one from Steam?

    I'm running on Windows. With the Beamdog version.

    Got it working.

    Ran the game in compatibility mode Windows 7.

    Worked for me too but I can't seem to play the introduction movie at all

    A few people had similar issues with BG:EE and BGII:EE and reboots after installing helped them. Might be worth trying that if not already done.
