Been playing BG EE and I can see why some adult older hard core fans of Baldur's Gate are sticking to the original game on Sorcersplace. I finally finished the game and this entire game was a cakewalk compared to the original game. And I know what your gonna say.... No my characters didn't have full stats. When I created my character I didn't wait till I rolled a really high stat score. No I didn't choose any of the kits. Blah Blah Blah. There were at times some enemies hitting my characters and they would only take 1 damage and sometimes even no damage at all. In the Original Baldur's Gate when I got hit, I got hit hard and I had to be on top of my game when I went through Nashkel Mines too. I had to use the right positioning of my characters with the tanks in front and back protecting my mages and thieves. Those Kobolds you got in there hardly hit for anything at all. I felt like this whole game has been made for childern and casual gamers that need their hand held.
That Bounty Hunter Gray Wolf was a joke. That guy got plowed like a sack of Pancakes.
The developers I noticed put down the dmg output on the enemies in the game.
I bought this game because my Baldur's Gate does not work well on my windows 7. I bought this because its a more stable patched up version. If I would of known the developers made this game easy I wouldnt of bothered buying it. Why do you developers feel the need to make games so easy these days? Not all of us gamers like things done for us or easy. Why do you consistently keep making games for one type of gamer? This is why PC gaming in the MMORPG genre is in shitter. Having no challange in rpg games is boring. It makes the game boring with no feeling of reward. Load up the old 5 disk 1998 version and see for yourself.

1) You can now pause in inventory screen.
2) Bigger stacks of stackable stuff.
3) Tab Highlighting of loot (shouldn't matter for veterans, but makes a HUGE difference for a first timer playing blind.)
If you find it too easy, use the hardest difficulty setting, handicap yourself with personal "realism costraints", install SCS and try difficulty challenges like no-reloads. etc
@FinneousPJ
You've been here long enough to know flame-baiting is unacceptable here.
Do some tests. Document it. If there is indeed a difference than post it in the bug section.
The only other difficulty difference I could think of would be some mods (tutu) increased the random encounter spawns. In my experience, this actually makes the game easier because you amass experience and treasure at a faster rate. That makes you higher level, and richer, when you get to the set boss encounters. But your mileage may vary...
You can also set the difficulty to max and or solo the game with 1 char.
Oh and "casual" isn't so terrible you know @Trash . But if it makes you feel better, nearly each "casual" RPG/MMO game has harder modes (or mods) for people like you.
You can't cheese the battle like that any more. Even if his associates can't see you cast the Cloudkill, they don't just stand around wondering why they are dying as they suffocate to death- they come out and attack you now, and the final battle is (IMO, of course) harder for that. So overall, I think it's about the same. But let's not also forget that things have changed in the game, as mentioned by others, like larger missile stacks, higher level/exp cap and so on. I had "Tales of the Sword Coast", but I never even ventured into Durlag's Tower, because I thought that it was an add-on for after the original game ended, not more stuff for the in-game campaign (and yes, I was wrong- I know it.). But even if TotSC had some changes, I think the new EE version of the game is better. My only wish is that all of the companions who join you had as much dialogue as the three new characters- But I also understand why that isn't possible.
Plus, the other big thing is that we now have more experience with the game. When I play BG:EE, I don't go straight for the story missions (so to speak), I do many more of the side quests than I ever did before. And yes, that gives me more experience for my characters. I try now to do *all* the side quests for the game. I try to explore as much of the map as possible and find all the hidden stuff. And this changes the experience, too.
But to be honest, it's still hard in the early parts- I've been killed by Shank and Carbos more times than I care to admit. The Catacombs beneath Candlekeep are just as deadly. But now I know what to expect and look forward to there and that makes them easier to survive.
Good luck with your new CHARNAME and have fun (and use your experience well)!
Then I realized you can change the difficulty settings.
The original had core rules on by default. Setting it to easy you receive half damage, max hp.
