If you put the silk in the statue before the spike trap, you can carry the gold statue across it without being weighed down. It has no other use.
Many thanks for the answer. Never thought it might has such a use as that!!!!! (I put it on dragomir's bag, now i have both in my inventory, hehe)
Can you say whether there is any other use to following items or not?
Scimitar +1: If you have it with you, near spike trap it makes 6 warrior statues to come to life and attack. Additionally if you use a "stone to flash" scroll on one of mage statues, all 6 of them come back to life and attack, if you kill all 12 of them after they come back to life, the chest at front of trap field becomes lootable.
Gold Statue: If you have it with you, it gets too heavy midway crossing the spike trap field, making you unable to move, thus you take more damage. (Haven't found anybody that would buy it yet, not sure if it even is possible) Lamp of Oil: After crossing spike trap field, an additional enemy will be summoned and attacks you, starting as fireball.
PS: Too bad we can't disable this spike trap. We can't, can we?
I can now confirm pretty much everything you said @jahes64. That is very good if you were just guessing (and well worthy of the promote too, I should add)! The only thing you missed is that putting the silk in the statue appears to prevent the oil lamp and the scimitar from triggering their effects in that hallway as well.
When I first did this quest (back before the game came out) I put the gold statue in the statue before the spike trap and I thought that disabled the spike trap. I never really understood what was going on in there until now.

Actually it was my usual curiosity that led me to discover these facts. I always try to discover everything when i play RPGs, that is.
Next time i will try putting things in that empty statues as well. (right now, i am out of that dungeon, so i can't try these)

PS: I don't care about spoilers....
