This is my story.

The story of Bane, also known as the Scourge of Swoard Coast.

I knew I was different. The way they looked at me.

'My foster child' - Gorion called me.
'Scourge' - all the unfriendly people inside Candlekeep

I didn't understand why they were all so hostile. My father, Gorion, always avoided telling me about my legacy.

I knew why he did that. He wanted to strip me of my rightful place.

I will be the new Lord of Murder.

It all began in Candlekeep.... My father ambushed. An armored figure showing up and murdering him asking for my life.

My childhood was not that happy. People looked at me coldly, and were scared of my fascination for Alaundo's prophecies. They all knew.

But no one understood who I would become. What I could become.

Excellent, that's what I was hoping for! And not just no-reload, there's storytelling as well :)
    Looking forward to more!

Like the way Bane tells things in retrospective, and I find your no-reload approach interesting: the story stands and if Bane dies he'll just have to redo the quests he had done up till his death. You could consider exporting your character so that you don't have to roll a new character every time; instead you just import at character creation.
Re: SCS, their mages are very well scripted. Mutamin is one example amongst many.

Personally I'm pretty anti-arcane magic. I just think arcane magic is too powerful for most of the game and moreover spoilt with items like Ring of Wizardry in BG1, or the Robe of Vecna and the Staff of the Magi in BG2. For that reason a single class Berserker or Barbarian would be a bit more appealing to me than a Mage dual or multi variant. I'll nevertheless follow your exploits with interest!

Btw the Revisions you cite look interesting. In ToB the main threats are not only wizards but also a number of hard hitting physical damage dealers. Those revised HLAs would come in handy...

I'm relieved and glad to see an update. Good luck to Bane!

I think you should post your screenshots here. Follow this guide: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/34077/how-to-post-files-images-step-by-step-guide#latest

Just put each pic into a spoiler (the instructions on formatting are given in the OP http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/161/how-to-format-your-posts#latest). It's been a common way of writing playthrough reports on this forum.

Mmmmm. I died again. This time against the 4 Thai mages. I tried and retried the fights and I was never able to come out on top. The only thing that I needed, though, was the ninmph's cloak. As soon as I got it, and I was able to charm the first guy standing in the ladder, I was able to kill all the other with extreme easyness.

I will restart the run wednesday.

Edit: Is there a way to edit fully a comment? It seems I can't attach files if I already made the post. I would like a full editor

Thanks Bengoshi for the insight about how to post the image.

    Bane before dieing:
    image

Got some thoughts, before facing mages:

    - Get the cloak from Algernon
    - Get the body health manual
    - Just keep playing and farming everything
    - Use a nocap to make things easier :P
    - Get the specialization gauntlets.

@blackraven I used the magic protection potion + barbarian rage + the kazgaroth amulet and it simply didn't matter. They butchered me.
But next time I know how to play. I didn't expect they would have beaten a level 7 barbarian with such ease, to be sincere. I was quite sure I would have murdered them in a whisle. But it didn't matter :P

Ah, by the way, instead of importing each time, can I just load a save right out Candlekeep? Or would that be 'cheating'?

Thanks for each one of you for the comments.

I admit that I said that I wanted to start everytime out of Candlekeep, but I guess that sort of kills the noreload run. I just find annoying each time to do always the same thing, giving the book, giving the scroll, giving the antidote to the cow, etc.
That's why I asked if I could skip Candlekeep, but I feel like I should have avoided asking that.

@Bengoshi I like the fact that you told me this is one of the hardest fight. At least, I'm relieved, but Bane feels even better given the fact that he kinda knows the future he resurrects and starts from Candlekeep. Sarevok had his share of dreams about others, but Bane knows the future. Wonder what's better? :P

Anyway, you told me to attach images better. The truth is that the way I'm presenting the story is a flashback. So if I didn't give you the photos attached to the flashback itself, I thought you would have found disappointing waiting for me to write the second part of the story that culminates into the ambush.
Now that Sarevok told about the ambush, I can start attaching images.

I hope my story will give you half the enjoyment reading @lemernis gave me

@Scourge It doesn't really matter whether you reload from before or after Candlekeep IMO, you're not really doing 100 % no-reload anyway.
  • ScourgeScourge Member Posts: 97
Actually it sorta is. I mean, I'm just avoiding making the character each time and importing :P

Getting 90 for a warrior is not hard. The highest I got was 93, but the strength was always pitiful ;)

I've got a question to ask: how would you beat sirine with a solo barbarian? I've got the rage, that's true, but I'm scared of the feeblemind effect. Suggestions? SHould I take Branwen, let her cast chaotic commands on me, then be done with it?

@Scourge, I generally don't allow myself to reload from Candlekeep. First of all it feels like reloading a character that has died (which I simply am not comfortable with). Secondly even in Candlekeep your character may face two challenges: Shank and Carbos are assassins that use poison weapon and that go invisible in SCS v28 after all). Reloading from a save after having killed those does feel slightly wrong to me.

What you could do is export a character (with good stats) after you've done all the Candlekeep quests. That way if you import the character after Bane has died, he'll already have the Candlekeep XP and items - but not the extra gold, which you may see as the price for not having to kill Shank/Carbos. You can just take Bane straight to Gorion.

Having said all that, I'm probably a serious nitpicker. In a way I even feel like a cheat running a solo WIzard Slayer similar to my no-reload WS Thani through ToB as a testcase for Thani's run.

I'm also puzzled by the fatigue effect. I've never seen that after using any potion.

Glad you survived. Personally I always love the narrow escapes. :)
I guess for a Barbarian it can be difficult to get your AC nice and low. Your best Armor would be the Splint Mail +1 (supposing you didn't somehow kill Drizzt). It's a bit late now and perhaps nothing new for you, but Boots of Avoidance + Claw of Kazgaroth + Cloak of Displacement give a combined +13 bonus to AC vs missiles, very useful against the bandits (and even the Kobolds in the Nashkel Mines and SCS Diarmid who's a killer with his bow).

    Edit: grammar

You can't go against the SCS Bandit Camp as not a magic user without the The One Gift Lost with full charges. I find this item essencial. You have to kite and spam fireballs. Keep calm and soon no single bandit will be there.

Without this item, taking into account the alarm effect the SCS Bandit Camp has, you have nearly no chance. There's also a mage there with nasty spells (Hold, for e.g.). If you fight too long against bandits in melee, your protections can wear off and the mage will put you down.

The Necklace of Missiles helps greatly here.

I think my evil F/M/T Phaendris would have something to say about someone trying to steal the title "Scourge of the Sword Coast" from her. ;p http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/31439/phaendris-scourge-of-the-sword-coast-role-played-evil-play-through#latest

Teasing aside, though, cool stuff so far. I'll read it in more depth later on, but I like what I've read so far.

Wow that's a lot of progress there. Well done! What level is your current Bane?
I liked the bits with Sarevok btw, very nice.
