Straight to BGII

VallmyrVallmyr Member, Mobile Tester Posts: 2,459
So I've beaten BG:EE dozens of times but only beat BG2:EE once. This is because usually I want to play characters from the beginning to the end but now I have 5 characters that have completed BG:EE and I kind of just want to go to BG2:EE but then when my re-rollitis kicks in and want to try a new class I feel like I need to start over.

Do you guys think it's ok to pass over BG:EE and just go straight to BG2:EE granted I've beaten the first game many times?

Go for it! I have been starting right from bg2 for quite some time, now. Bg1 is all well and good but bg2 is so much better I want to jump right in to fun.

For rp purposes you can say your pc has amnesia and can't remember anything from bg1, there are dialogue options for recurring npcs such as 'huh I don't remember you at all!'

It is also slightly more challenging as you will start with less xp, no magical items will be ported, no tome bonuses, and your mage will have no lvl 5 spells in his book. (And a lot less spells if you usually collect every scroll in bg1)

I played BGII first, and it spoiled the entire first game with a throwaway line in the intro movie. So I played it for years without touching BG. I don't think it's unreasonable, especially since you have already beaten BG once.

Of course it's ok. It's not like anyone is gonna judge you even if you hadn't beaten BG:EE once. BG2:EE is the harder game anyway.

It's not ok! uoulle be at a severe didadvantage, though I might be fairly inebriated at present so take this with a pinch of salt but starting at bg2 is fine ad the game is engineered to ensure you can play at that level.

There's nothing wrong with it as long as you don't mind losing out on some stat boosting. If you just can't live without them you could give yourself the tomes using the console, or edit the character file to reflect the bonuses. I wouldn't worry about it though. You'll have a powerful character regardless of the tomes. The most important consideration is to play in a way which is fun for you.

No, you shall be shunned among your peers for such vulgar misbehaviour!

    lol thanks guys XD
I super appreciate the advice and such. I always liked BGII more than the first but felt I needed to play through the first everytime I had an idea for a new character.

'Tis a shame my favorite npc, Alora, is only in BGI but that's what modding is for!

@Vallmyr, I feel your pain. I always want Charname's tale to start in Candlekeep, but I nevertheless agree with the others: don't punish yourself, do what you feel like doing. Life is short.
One thing though, you have 5 characters that already went through BG1 you say, does none of them interest you enough to continue their tale in BG2?
