Black screen upon launch (BG:EE, BG2:EE and IWD:EE)

CrowCrow Member Posts: 48
I got all three games, off Steam and GoG and whenever I launch them I just get a black screen and the music plays, I can still click the icons to launch a campaign or quit the game but I don't see them, if I tab out for a second then I get a glimpse of the screen.

Playing at 1920x1080.

Any ideas?

I also have this exact same problem. Does anyone have any solutions here?

This is on tje menu rather than progressing past that and into the game itself?

Does it work in Windowed mode (Alt/Enter).

What graphics cards do you have, and what driver versions do you have installed for them.
    Thanks

Yeah, as soon as you click 'play' the cursor changes to the hand pointer, and the music plays, but the screen is just black. If you click on the screen in certain areas you can hear buttons being pressed, so its as if the game has loaded but just cant be viewed.

I have tried the windowed mode and it still does the same.

I have on board graphics, (Intel(R) Q965/963 Express Chipset Family). Driver version 8.15.10.1930 installed. I have tried to update drivers for this but cannot find any compatible ones that will install successfully.

The computer itself is a cheap one I got from Aria. It has a duo core processor and plenty of RAM & memory to easily play this game, just annoying that you get so far and then right when it loads this happens!!

    Any ideas?

    Cheers in advance,

P.S. If the idea is 'buy a graphics card' then I will ask for a refund instead. I have the original BG2 game on a ten year old laptop with on board graphics on that too and it runs a dream :P

In your baldur.ini files (in documents\baldurs gate - enhanced edition for example) what do you have for these settings, first of which is the OpenGL version.
    'Graphics', 'version', '4.0.0 - Build 10.18.10.3958 - build XXXX',
    'Graphics', 'renderer', 'Intel(R) HD Graphics',
    'Graphics', 'vendor', 'Intel'

There may be similar reports and potential solutions in the archive area, I'll have a quick scan but link is http://forum.baldursgate.com/categories/windows-pc if you want to look through. There are a few stickied threads about Intel chipsets that would be worth reading through.

A couple of threads with some people reporting success and others not, no 1 answer for everyone.

& a long shot - reboot if you only normally use sleep/hibernate.

& if this page is for your graphics card it looks like you are restricted to version 1 of OpenGL.

@Gate70 Hey, I've given up all hope of getting help, thanks for the positive suprise.

I have an Nvdia GT 9600 512 MB Graphics card, old, but the EE games worked fine until now.

The game screen is black as soon as the game hits the main screen, where you can select TOB, SoA etc.

Fixed it by setting my screen to a certain resolution, then alt+enter, after that I disabled UI scaling in the graphics options.

    Thanks.
