I strongly support the dual option. I am currently doing a berserker 7 / druid no-reload run and it's both very powerful, and very easy to do thanks to the druid xp curve. This makes the shapeshifting options quite useless but at least you remain a good fighter for the whole game.
Well, a Kensai dual is quite a bit stronger mechanically in Elemental Form, though timing that dual just right would be hard. Then again, thats pretty lategame, even for a solo, so Berserker would be much easier.
Btw, if you wish to use Elemental Forms in combat, SWS helps. These forms might be handy for a solo.
This topic is guilty of having me start a new playthrough of BG:EE with an Avenger druid. The Totemic Druid is my favourite kit, but I have already played Shadows of Amn(iralda) with my Totemic Amniralda. Having never played BG1 with a Druid charname, I rolled up Sakhmet as a an Avenger. Sakhmet is a vengeful Egyptian goddess, hence the name: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/s/sakhmet.html
