A boy and his dog

Heh, I loved that movie! Also, it seems an appropriate title for this query. I just rescued little "Rufie" and took him back to Albert. Now, my party is composed of all good and neutral characters who would never even think of killing some poor little kid's dog, but I imagine an evil party might follow an alternate course of action. Has anyone actually attacked Rufie and Albert? Given the fact that they both apparently come from one of the Nine Hells, a bit of a tussle might well ensue. Just curious.

Oh yes, it's quite a decent fight at that stage of the game. IIRC, there's actually more XP to be had by killing them than by returning Rufie and letting them go.

Tip: if you're going to attack them, drop the "chew toy" and fight Rufie before returning to Albert, then return to Albert afterwards, and he'll realise what you've done and attack. That way you fight only one at a time, which is easier than both together.

If I remember correctly that just causes albert to transform and leave, giving you some quest exp (a bit more than otherwise). If you decide to attack the boy (I did so with my lawful good party after making a "detect evil" with Ajantis, let me tell you it's not really worth the hustle. No items and barely more experience than by making him leave angry.
And a party injured by a demon that hits like a truck. Albert does go down rather quickly hp-wise though.

Detect evil; huh, didn't think of that one. I don't have a paladin, though, in any event. As I said, no way to justify attacking some poor kid's dog from an RP standpoint, given the composition of my particular group. Thanks for the info though.

    >>Adventuring 101: If you see some kid in the middle of nowhere, SOMETHING IS UP! Using Detect Evil or Know Alignment on the brat is smart, not paranoia.<<

There's a boatload of people and semi-people running around out in the hills following various agendas. MyChar is true neutral, and really doesn't care what someone else does unless they try to gank him, personally. So, knowing someone's alignment is not that germane to him; he isn't going to attack anyone just because they maybe do some bad stuff now and then. He does prefer to recruit good helpers as opposed to evil, but that's only because they will be less likely to get him into trouble with the local authorities. In fact, he specifically avoided recruiting Ajantis because he reasoned that a fanatic warrior of Good might be prone to getting him into unwanted fights.

He had even encountered a number of unaccompanied children prior to this, who proved to be perfectly normal kids, so Albert wasn't particularly that suspicious seeming. And suppose you DO find out the kid is evil; hardly grounds to attack him. I mean, what did some 12 year old do? Beat up his kid brother?

Now, what he would really consider to be more relevant to this scenario would be detect illusion. Finding out that innocent little Albert is a demonic being would certainly be of interest. Although, for a denizen of Hell, Albert proves to be pretty benign,

I love the twists on some of these fetch quests. Retrieve a dog? It's a hellhound! Retrieve a cat? It's a zombie cat!

    Find a sword? it's a talking sword!

Find an artifact of the region's most famous hero?

    It's a butter knife!

Those are the main reasons why I love this game...

I mean, if a good party discovered that Albert is actually a Fiend, BEFORE returning ruffie...why wouldn't they attack him?

Maybe if they were low level enough to realize they had no chance against it, and if it wasn't actively hostile they might decide to at least talk to it?
