from items upgrade mod, it is a super ranged weapon, same rate of fire of a bow, +4 enchantment and the hoge damage of the regular impaler, it also get the str damage bonus.
the only problem, related to this topic, is that i am not sure that it is considered as ranged weapon kit wise so an archer that uses it maybe can not get the kit bonuses, so can be less then optimal, while for fighters and other classes is really strong. in many runs it was the ranged weapon of my haer dalis or my jaheira. the other returning spear, the one you loot in the red badge encounter of tactics mod is also very strong, less damaging, but +5 and with a very nasty stunning on hit effect.
