I don't know why but I've always preferred the music my parents listened to instead of the stuff my friends were into. (possibly because I have good taste)
@wubble, proud of you ? Now I feel old and ... stranded. Incidentally do you know the drummer guy ? (based on your own post)

@Musigny Unfortunately for some reason I was never very interested in music when i was younger (A sin for which I hope I can redeem myself) so i still don't know enough about each band (or even all of the albums they did). Every time I visit my dad I'm importing his cds onto my itunes so I'm getting better at recognising them (it's taking a while he's been collecting for 40 years).
@wubble On my second link Stevie Ray Vaughan plays without his band (that was a TV show). The drummer is Omar Hakim who also plays on Dire Straits Money for nothing (your own link). Sorry for the question

No need to apologise : ), I still need to link each band+musician to the music I heard in my childhood, even if I don't recognise the name of an album/band i'll often find it hauntingly familiar as it'll have been played when i was little.
@The_Vityaz I didn't expect that anyone would post Caladan Brood in this thread. Awesome. I will back you up with this one:
Lyrics are in the description but I will paste them here too:
Across the plains come drifts of sand From graves of water and tombs of man The hollow weight of history Desiccated and blowing free
In the wake, all is dust
The bones of beasts and the bones of kings Become dust in the wake of the hymn Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall No more than a breath on the wind
Spectres and gods adrift in the wild, mournful wind Vast cycles unfold across the span of æons Colossal keeps consumed and left as burial mounds And even stars will fade into empyrean shrouds
In ashen vaults, on parchment scrolls The echoed verses state soft the toll
In the wake, all is dust
Vast desolation Silent grave of æons
Revenants watch from cold cosmic towers Glimmering eyes of jade bear final witness
Temples crumble as the great wheel turns Ground to dust Monuments and megaliths unnamed Fall the same Earth and sky enrobed in deathless void Endless night Worm of Autumn claims its final throne
The bones of beasts and the bones of kings Become dust in the wake of the hymn Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall No more than a breath on the wind
Reminds me of the legendary Summoning. Here's Summoning - Unto a Long Glory ( album Dol Guldur, 1997)
Lyrics
Over the land there lies the long shadow. Westward reaching wings of darkness; The Tower trembles to the tombs of kings
The doom approaches the Dead awaken; For the hour is come for the oathbreakers At the stone of Erech they shall stand again Hear there horn in hills enchants Who shall call them From grey twilight Forgotten ones?
Out of doubt, out of dark Hope rekindles, and hope in end Over death, over dread Over doom lifted Out of loss, out of life And out of doubt, out of dark Over death, over dread Out of loss, Unto a long glory...
The heir of him to whom the oath they swore From the North he shall come And he shall pass the door To the Paths of the Dead
Mourn not overmuch - mighty was the fallen And war now calls us!
And hear there horn in hills ringing Who shall call them from grey twilight
It should. Guys from Caladan Brood said in many interviews that Summoning was a huge inspiration and basis for their music. The thing I like about them however, is the fact that they didn't just copy their style, but found their own as well.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells II, live 1992
On second thought... @bengoshi or any other admin - I let you decide/control whether this meets the pg13 req.
Incidentally do you know the drummer guy ? (based on your own post)
And to make sure I link music
On my second link Stevie Ray Vaughan plays without his band (that was a TV show).
The drummer is Omar Hakim who also plays on Dire Straits Money for nothing (your own link).
Sorry for the question
which is stolen from Muddy Waters (music and lyrics by Willie Dixon)
I could not resist.
And you got the link with my first post (I want to make love to you ... by Willie Dixon).
Where's my reward ?
Moving on though, another band with an awesome guitarist, a nice bit of early queen
As for your reward how about a stale cookie that nimran was handing out a while ago...
Or perhaps one of my favourite pieces of music ( because it's hilarious )...
