Hey does anyone know how to obtain and retain ownership of files from another computer in windows 8.1? I am having one heck of a time with it for the damn thing keeps putting the 'read only' attribute onto all of my old files :( .
*A bit of older obsolete information*: I cannot copy nor edit nor save any changes to any file. I think it is permission issue but I have no idea how to fix this. I am looking for insightful advice on how to use Windows 8.1, Near Infinity and Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast together for content creation. I had it working on windows 7 but Windows 8.1 is being a pain.
image
^ The above New Two-Handed Sword was created when I could actually operate Near Infinity in 2014 on a Windows 7 Laptop.
I have Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, but I want to use the original Item B.A.M. viewing format to help me make new items.

You could try the following command to take ownership of a folder and all of its content:
    takeown /f c:\path\to\game\or\save /r
You have to open a console as administrator for this.

@argent77 will this work for all of say Program Files(x86)? Or do I Have a serious problem if my 'native drive' is doing this?

    Re-Edit: So I just go cmd > "takeown /f c:\program files (x86) /r" *enter*?

cmd > "takeown /f c:\program files (x86) /r" *enter* is having some issues

"ERROR: Invalid argument/option - 'files'." what is up?

You'll have to use quotes for folder names with spaces:
    takeown /f "c:\Program Files (x86)" /r

I will try this if this 'guide' does not work *'owner switching' is currently running as I post this*
I should be able to say if it worked or not. http://tipsandtricksforum.com/thread-223.html

Windows 8.1 is the exact definition of the word 'retarded': "less advanced in mental, physical, or social development than is usual for one's age."
