Yea you are correct. Thought the threshold was 7. Guess its 6
Regarding Weapon Proficiencies, is being able to gain ranks beyond Specialised (**), after reactivating Fighter from a DC, a bug or working as intended in the fully patched pre-EE Icewind Dale?
That one I know is an intended change.
I don't deal with Icewind Dale EE on a professional level (I was hired to do QA work on Adventure Y) so I can't answer your other question.
Do you mean that limiting progression beyond Proficient for a Fighter DC, once the Fighter level is reactivated, is an intended change in the EE version of the game, but it is working as intended in the pre-EE Icewind Dale?
I only want to consider further increasing ranks if it's an intended part of the game, but if it's been nerfed for EE then I will consider limiting myself to the EE rules.

In the actual original IWD (including its expansions), which is what I was under the impression you were initially talking about, advancing in weapon proficiencies was stopped if you were dual classing from a fighter or ranger into another class (even after you reached one level higher in your second class than your first class).
EE changes that so that you can increase your weapon proficiencies after reactivating your 2nd class. This is an intended change.
It's a bit disappointing really, I thought I had managed to put ranks past Proficient in my non-EE version of the game, but I can't seem to replicate it. I had installed the fix pack from the Gibberlings 3 website between experiments, so maybe that changed something. Or maybe I was just too tired and not paying attention and was imagining things. So I guess I'll just go with GM in a primary melee weapon and Specialisation in missile weapons for my Fighter 9>Cleric DC's.
Any suggestions on which type of melee weapon I should use?
I was thinking maces or flails or perhaps one type on each Fighter 9>Cleric.

Is there any reason to go beyond 100% in that skill?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Or maybe quarterstaffs?
