Baldur's Gate 2, with Throne of Bhaal, closely followed by IWD1. Why? Because it's dynamic, it's rhythmic and it gives you the feel of danger. Many times Icewind Dale fails flat because there are like 5 combat tracks in the whole game and for the most part, there's just the standard area track playing (Kuldahar under attack? EVERYTHING'S FINE!)

SoA and ToB had that feeling of ambient with its combat tracks.

Otherwise, IWD's non-combat tracks are gorgeous and brilliant to say the least!

    @Cheesebelly

I have to agree with your comment about IWD's non-combat tracks being gorgeous and brilliant. I played that game years ago and those tracks have really stuck with me :)

I'm not voting because there is no Planescape: Torment option. Mark Morgan is amazing.

Ahh sorry @Rhulqdahr. Ive never played Planescape: Torment and it totally slipped my mind of putting it as a choice!! Shame on me. Sorry.

IWD for me. I consider it the best soundtrack for a game that I have played.

As much as I love BG2+ToB' I'll be honest here, there are three things IWDII did better: combat, graphics and the soundtrack.

So many people preferred the IWD soundtrack, but I found BGII"s soundtrack to be dynamic, fitting for the moods of the game, and just plain memorable. I actually have listened to the BG soundtracks in my car before.

IWD2's soundtrack was nice, but somewhat depressing.

Even after all these years the credit song of Planescape: Torment still reigns surpreme in my book.

BG1 one more time. I'm comparing Sarevok and Irenicus battle music. When you fight them for the first time, you can hear a track you already listened many times, then you get a unique track for the final battle. In both cases BG1 music still sounds more epic to me, though.

Fighting Sarevok in the Ducal Palace (also listened in Candlekeep)

Fighting Irenicus in Spellhold (also listened in his dimensional plane in Chapter 1 and Bodhi's hideout in Athkatla)

Fighting Sarevok in the Temple of Bhaal

Fighting Irenicus in Hell (No battle music in Suldanesselar)

They all have great things going for them. Can't just pick one

"Skeleton of a Town" has always been of my favorites. I listen to it quite often

I can't really remember IWD2, I haven't played it in too long. But definitely IWD for me, the music sounds very "epic". Then followed closely by BG, the music has a very medieval quality to it which I like very much. I don't particularly like the music in BG2 at all, I can't really pinpoint why, but I don't like the style.

They all had great soundtracks. I ended up choosing Baldur's Gate 2, because I remember them more, though if I could change my vote, I might have chosen Icewind Dale. Never finished IWD1, nor played 2, despite owning both games, but the music seems more my taste now that I've listened to some of them.

I know this isn't part of the poll but I *loved* some of that TOB music. The boss battle tune was perfect :)

^Good ol Inon Zur for ToB, very good indeed.

This pretty much shows that BG2 has pretty awsome and memorable soundtrack.

By the way, shouldn't Neverwinter Nights be in this list? :-)

    Icewind Dale

Planescape: Torment hands down the best game soundtrack, but from these BG1 is my favourite, especially music in Cloakwood mines and Undercity.
  • KenjiKenji Member Posts: 251
    Definitely Icewind Dale.

Why? The chill you could feel in your bones when listening to the Easthaven theme, or the warmth amongst the cold winter around Kuldahar. These music scores are so well done in Icewind Dale that the music itself immersed the game for the players.

Did Baldur's Gate do that for me? Sure, but not as astounding as Icewind Dale did.

I would have voted "Cant pick. There all amazing!!", but went for the one with the highest degree of nostalgia, which for me is simply the first that I was exposed to.
  • AenorAenor Member Posts: 64
Come to think of it, all of them are almost unbeatable. I'd still go with BG1 because of the nostalgia factor. IWD's music is incredible too. You can feel the cold and frostiness from the score.

There's no doubt that all the soundtracks are amazing, but I do have a weakness for the Icewind Dale one, especially when you're greeted by the intro theme...
