I have nothing insightful to say, but I just wanted to point out how badly you spelt 'better'. :(

EDIT: Thank you for changing it, now I feel better.

Ok, now Perdue's short sword will function as a reward. Happy?

When times, when players played for fun instead for some retarded fictional profit, has gone?
  • WardWard Member Posts: 1,305
@ZelgadisGW You play for fun? I play for retarded fictional profit, fictional epic Godhood and fictional Drow wife. I got my money's worth son.

    Remember on Role Play Gaming.

We are not players, we are adventurers.
And nearly all adventurers seek profit !
( If you are not Lawfull stupid paladin )

If someone send you kill ten red dragons for 100 G, you will do that ?
  • WardWard Member Posts: 1,305
@Edvin Only 100? That's not much for killing ten red dragons. Who was the poor bastard who conned you into that quest? You should ask for more.

@lordkim 100000, now that sounds about right for that kind of job! I can buy myself a new pair of boots. Or Viconia some new Drow made lingerie, disappears in the sunlight. ;)

This are my " special " red dragons, they are physical ilusion.
They dont have any items, gold or scales and you will not get any xp for kill or finish Q.

Will you do that for 100 gold ?

btw: Conversation is going to bad direction.
Stop trying kill my dragons ! :D
  • WardWard Member Posts: 1,305
@Edvin You want us to risk our lives to kill dragons which possess no items, gold, scales or xp, for 100 gold?

    What are we, level 20?

    No i don´t want that !

This is stupid quest, because reward is not proportional difficulty quest.

Same problem like reward for finish Durlag tower.
  • WardWard Member Posts: 1,305
@Edvin OH I understand you now. But the difference between Durlag's tower and ten dragons is you can loot Durlag's Tower, you can't loot dragons can you?
  • O_BruceO_Bruce Member Posts: 2,790
@Edvin it's not like you're not finding more than enugh usefull items or treasures in Durlag's Tower itself, right?

    You still miss my point.....

Of course you can find many good items in Durlag´s Tower ( it is bloody hell dungeon ! ).
Ten dragons and 100 G was not best example.

    I make it simple:

    1)
Hard quest = good quest reward

    2)
Durlag's Tower dungeon = Hard quest

    3)
Durlag's Tower dungeon should have good quest reward

    4)
Durlag's Tower dungeon have bad quest reward

Please, do you understand me now ?
  • WardWard Member Posts: 1,305
@Edvin So you're saying Durlag's Tower dungeon has a bad quest reward?
  • EdvinEdvin Member, Translator (NDA) Posts: 3,244
    YES !!!!!!!!!!
  • O_BruceO_Bruce Member Posts: 2,790
@Edvin I perfectly understand. Take some things into account, will you?

For starters, freaking dwarf who gives you his quest. He's a lone dwarf. What the hell do you think he can give you? Ten thousand gold pieces? Some mighty mithrill full plate armor? Seriously, get real. He instead is giving you his magical warhammer, which, If memory serves me well, has been in his family for generations or something. That's the best he can do.

Second, take into account that player can do Durlag's Tower for different reasons. Paladins might want to cleanse evil, random adventurers are interested in legendary treseaures, some people (monks, for example) would want to face danger in tower's dungeons just to test their skills, while some pople (evil bhaalspawns) are visiting the tower with hope to find something that could help them obtain more power. And you, a ROLE-PLAYER are going inside Durlag's Tower just because old dwarf asked you to retireve his dagger? Seriously?

Thrid, and most important. I believe that dwarf wanted you to retrieve his dagger, and thus, gave you reward for that (expect that cultist and demon things result in loss of dagger, but anyway...). I bet he didn't know that demonkinght had this dagger. Main point, that's quest reward for bringing his dagger back, not for cleaning Durlag's Tower. What do you found while being in dungeons is your rewards. You reap what you sow.

I have impression that my post is totally in vain.

    Before making this (useless) request...

Kiel's buckler, Kiel's helm, Bala's axe, two handed sword +3, spear +2, cloak of the shield, sling +3, mace +2, large shield +2, leather armor +3, halberd +1, cloak of protection +1, leather armor +1, war hammer +1, short sword +1, sling +1, small shield +1, wand of monster summoning, wand of fire, over 50 potions, over 30 scrolls, over 300 magical ammo...

Finish the game at least one time.

    You still don´t understand me...
War Hammer +1, +4 vs Giantkin is rubbish even in BG1.

Look on item list what Kerozevok write here ( and he still miss few good items ).
So many good gear in that hard dungeon and ours reward is that poor war hammer ?!

BTW: lone dwarf can´t have any useful gear ?

I don´t want any epic item or 10 000 G, i want only something useful.

robe of vecna, carsomyr, flail of ages or what would you suggest for the reward then?
  • O_BruceO_Bruce Member Posts: 2,790
@Edvin As I said, in vain.

When rewards are staged the game feels less real to me. I don't mind "crappy rewards" as long as the game doesn't feel like there is a golden path (which I despise).

That said, I think if the developers were to populate the original game with items that are missing or need attention, places like Durlag's that have "weak rewards" may be the perfect place to fit these new items. That way you are solving two 'problems' at once.

We do understand that if you think that a two-handed sword +3, a magical buckler, a potion of Storm Giant strength, or a scroll of Chaos are useless, we're not playing the same game.

Edvin wants a war hammer 60D30+300 of fire.

    Semething useful but not OP.
    Something like:

    1) " Jhor the Bleeder " ( Bastard sword +2 )
Nearly all weapons in BG have +2 variant, but there is´t any Bastard sword +2.

    2) " Gnasher " ( Club +2 )
    Same problem like bastard sword.

    3) " Malakar " ( Katana +2 )
Katanas will be in BG:E and we need some place to get them, but not so easy.
    ( Adequate reward for that Q )

Noooooooooooooo, I liked ToSC because of good balance (not getting too much is better, you value every one item you get, even warhammers).

You shouldn't go to Durlag's Tower only for reward from this old dwarf, because everybody knows that you will be cheated by him. My solution: maybe don't go there at all? You know there is not good enough reward, so no dungeon-exploring.

And even if there wouldn't be any reward at all (not even stupid hammer-1, -4 against ogres) I guess you would go there anyway for other things that are in this old mysterious place.
