Sarevok Encounter

In Baldurs Gate, after leaving Candlekeep with Gorion, what do you think the 1st encounter with Sarevok would have been like, if coincidentally Elminster bumped into the party before Sarevok did, followed by the appearance of Sarevok and his gang ?

It in the story you bump into 'Old Man' (Elminster) the next morning after the carnage, what are the chances that Elminster showed up a little early...

Share your thoughts as to how the events could have turned and how the encounter would have been!

Obviously Sarevok would have to wait until Elminster disappeared again to have a chance...

You would have been murdered in your sleep when you reached FAI. Gorion would have been too confident with Elminster, Jaheira and Khalid around and dropped his guard.

They would be planning their next move while you get your throat slit by who ever can walk in the front gate.

If Gorion had waited a while longer in Candlekeep, Sarevok wouldn't have been able to kill him there. And if Gorion had left just a bit earlier, he would have gotten away before Sarevok arrived. Clearly Sarevok wasn't able to hang out in the bushes near Candlekeep for days on end, or even devote too much time to personally go after CharName. So the meeting was largely a lucky break (for Sarevok).

    Or was it?

Why did Gorion leave just when he did? Because of a letter sent to him from Elminster! Who is to say that Elminster wasn't there all along, watching as his "friend" Gorion was cut down? Who but Elminster had the ability to really make a difference, and yet did jack-all to help? Elminster!

And here we thought Big Mel was the Final Villain. One more enemy yet remains, young CharName, one more...

I always figured Gorion needed to leave when he did because assassins were already finding their way into Candlekeep (however incompetent the first wave may have been). Sarevok couldn't wait around forever, but he did seem to be actively flushing Charname/Gorion out.

Now, as to the appearance of Elminster, that definitely would've been a problem for Sarevok, but I think so long as he doesn't engage when the archmage is present, he could still manage. Elminster tends to be rather busy with other world affairs, after all, and generally can't afford to stick around playing bodyguard for very long. Sooner or later Sarevok would get his chance.

Sarevok would drink 2 potions of 50% MR and laugh at the two mages. I mean really, those things are everywhere!

Joking aside, I was under the impression that Sarevok had spies in Candlekeep. He visited there enough. Send in some pathetic and moronic 'assassins' to flush Gorion and Charname out, be warned by your spies, and ambush them yourself. So Gorion's timing of leaving didn't matter all that much.

Very interesting outcomes. Sarevoks diary indicates he is determined to persue the protagonist, but I doubt he had the power to make an assault on and overrun Candlekeep. Sarevok should be aware of how powerful Tethtoril can be, 3 dietes will engage if he was even threatened. Let alone the proof from teleportation spell that radiated around the 18th level Priest of Mystra. I think Tethtoril would have torn Sarevok apart...
