Type of creature weapons?

RedWizardRedWizard Member Posts: 242
What exactly is the type of creature weapons?
It's simple enough guessing golems use bludgeoning but what about let's say... dragons, umber hulks, trolls, random wild life like bears, wolves.
Piercing? Slashing? Both depending on the attack?
It would be nice to know mostly so I can equip the proper belt on my tank.

It depends on the critter in question.

    Dragons: slashing
    Wolfweres: slashing
    Shadows: slashing
    Bears: slashing

    Trolls: piercing
    Mind Flayers: piercing
    Kuo-toa: piercing
    Wolves: piercing
    Spiders: piercing
    Sahuagin: piercing

    Demons: blunt
    Golems: blunt
    Umber Hulks: blunt
    Mummies: blunt
    Vampires: blunt
    Elementals: blunt
    Monks: blunt

Drow: slashing (male) or crushing (female)

If you're wearing full plate you get -4AC bonus against slashing and -3AC bonus against piercing already, so just wear the anti-blunt belt always and you're set.

@blackchimes Not true, an extra +3 AC against Slashing can do the way from being hit one hit in 5 which means quite a few times when facing a group of enemy to being hit one hit in 20 which means almost never.
AC is much like damage resistance in the sense that 20% is not a lot, but 20%+40% is, in BG2, 60% since it stacks additively, which IS a lot.
AC is the same. Against an enemy with a 0 Thac0, an AC of -5 means the enemy has to score more than 5 to hit you which is 75% to hit you. If you get an extra -5AC up to -10, he needs to score 10 or more, which is 50% of hitting you (damage suffered: *2/3)
Same thing with -15AC and -20AC: from 25% of being hit to 5% (crit only). Damage suffered: *1/5.

Too bad from what I read you can only get the slashing girdle from the mage stronghold quest...
You'd think they wouldn't restrict such a good item.

Don't overrate AC in BG2. In BG1 it is a very good thing indeed, but in BG2 the further on you go the more ridiculous enemy THAC0 progression becomes. A few points of AC hardly have a noticeable effect in ToB, or even late SoA (depending on difficulty/mods).

@RedWizard you can get one in ToB during Neera's quest

@Lord_Tansheron Overall AC is not that useful in ToB, except if you can get it very low (-24 and bonuses against specific weapon on top of it), in this case it is a very good way to mitigate damages.

It still only works against normal physical attacks, though, which are rarely the actually dangerous damage. A lot of damage comes from spells or in ways you can't avoid (because you're disabled in some form). While physical attack damage is far from irrelevant, the cost usually associated with getting your AC that low is to me not worth what you gain out of it.

That's true with SCS only, but without it most damage are physical in fact
