I can't believe no one has said (or even mentioned) Shar-Teel, the man-hating, Amazonian. She's easily the best fighter in the game once you give her a Potion of Fortitude. I especially liked her low and high reputation comments. Putting her in the party with Eldoth always ensured good times.

I like her a lot, but in a poll where I can only have one favorite, Tiax rules all.

Nice to see Eldoth getting some love, but guys, where's the Neutral NPC poll?

    Viconia is boring in BG1.

    I go for Shar-Teel.

Gotta show Xzar my love on this one but Tiax is a very close second... I seem to enjoy the insane characters for some reason.

Probably because of the fact that those the gods wish to destroy they first make mad! MAD! MA-HA-HA-HA-HAD!

Definitely Kagain. Just look at his catch phrases (http://baldursgategame.wikia.com/wiki/Kagain).

    1) Go pester someone else.
    2) I need an ale.
    3) Alright.
    4) I dont wanna talk.
    5) -Büurp- sure.
    6) The only thing better than gold, is more gold.
    7) You pugs are starting to piss me off.
    8) Gold runs the world kid, the faster ya learn that the better life'll treat ya.
    9) If i had a copper for every moron i ran across, i could buy Baldur's Gate.
    10) For the love o' money.
    11) Why me?
    12) As leader i plan to make us stinkin' rich. (When made leader)
    13) This dwarf's not fealin' too good. (When health critical)
    14) Even a dwarf's got a limit to his stamina. (When tiered)
    15) This forest always reminds me of pansy elves.

I'm honestly quite surprised Edwin is in front of Viconia here. Figured the sheer number of blokes who play BG would put her in front. pervy...

Though, I suppose Edwina isn't bad on eyes either

    Same here.

I didn't like Viconia (both as an effective NPC or a personality) until BG2.

Not only did Shar-Teel have a memorable personality, but she was the 3rd best NPC in the game IMO, after Coran and Kivan. She was a great tank, who could also be dual classed and become the best thief in the game (bye bye, Imoen!).

I never played an evil party in BG, but after playing BG2 with all NPCs my vote goes to Viconia.

Shameless Edwin love, in both games. Though I do wish him and Dynaheir got along better so both could be in the party 5ever. Oh well.

Viconia wins this one. She just is so incredibly comlicated, but funny.
