The mysterious case of the disappearing pantaloons

Playing BG2EE for the first time. I imported character from BG1, found my lovely golden pantaloons...... all was going swimmingly until I suddenly noticed in chapter 2 an empty slot in my inventory. My golden pantaloons were gone! Did someone nick them? or is it a bug? decided to start over again and pay more attention this time!
