Saved games are gone

I had an autosave and quicksave in Shadows of Amn in BG:EE2 multiplayer, I played as recently as last night. Today, after my computer installed auto updates (windows 8.1, haven't upgraded to 10), the saved files in users/(myprofile)/baldur's gate II - enhanced edition/mpsave appear to be gone. I did notice the folders are checked read only. I am definitely using the same user name as before, and I have scoured my computer for .sav and .gam files, nothing. What happened/what can i do? I am deep into the game and would be crushed to have lost my saves.

If you browse the expected location is there a compatibility folder icon e.g. like this

Failing that, are either of these any help (don't know if recent W8 updates have similarities to W10.
