The way Aerie has suffered in her life and the lack of experience in being part of a family, makes me worried she won't be able to be a good mother to her children, with all her trauma and lack of a good example.

Well, I suppose that is quite relative. All the examples she had from her mother were good, and besides, as a person who fights slavery and wishes to help the weak she could be even a better example than most mothers.

    And don't forget maternal instinct.
Being a priest is also kind of being like a parent (christian priests are not called "father" without reason).

In a world with no shortage of terrible fates and dramatic traumas all around, I'm sure she'll do fine. It's only when you compare it to our sheltered, modern life that you start to wonder.

Elves have a different concept of time than the shorter-lived races. She may well have been in and out of various sideshows and the circus for decades. Her elvish spirit may very well be the only reason she's not warped and twisted (a gnome can only help so much ya know!).
