New Master of Orion

Just discovered there is a new version of Master of Orion in the works:
http://masteroforion.eu/intro

Looks promising from what I can see on the web site, with some stellar voice actors signed up, so a significantly enhanced budget compared to last time around, which I hope has been well spent :)

I'd be interested to hear from anyone signing up for the early-access program - I'll be waiting for a full release on the Mac, although I don't think this published uses the Mac App store :(

After 3 I'm a little worried, but it looks promising.

This is one of those games I'll just wait and see what comes out.

I never played the original "Master of Orion", but I played the heck out of "Master of Orion 2" on Macintosh back in the day. I even played "Master of Orion 3". I wonder which game this new one is going to be more like....

And if they will also bring back "Master of Magic". :)

Master of Orion 2 is the one game that somehow, sooner or later, magically appears on any PC I own.
So I am more than interested in this remake/reboot/sequel.
But after the MOO3 debacle, I am also going to wait and see what comes out.

@LadyRhian the devs have said that MOO2 was the pinnacle of the series so far, and that is what they will be most inspired by. This will be a new game though, not a remake, so I too am in the wait-and-see camp, but hopeful.

MOO1 was a lot of fun - in many ways a simpler game than MOO2, with the end-game satisfaction of flying around fleets of 100,000 ships or more, in a manageable manner :)

I never owned Master of Magic, playing only a couple of times on a friend's PC, but that did look like a lot of fun that I missed, so would be very happy to see that come back too :)

Master of Magic - finished the game
Master of Orion - finished the game
Master of Orion 2 - finished the game, then replayed it, then replayed it again, and again, and again, and....
Master of Orion 3 - installed it, started playing it, uninstalled it, started pretending it is a bad fan made game

I am cautiously optimistic as far as the new MOO is concerned. Wait and see approach this time.

As far as upcoming 4x games go, the one I have most interest in is Stellaris by Paradox Interactive. The game has potential.

I've got the early access thingie, and I really like it so far. As far as mechanics go it's more 2 than 1, though the races are very much the first game's versions. There's a lot of subtle references to both the former games (not sure if there's anything from Master of Spreadsheets as I've avoided that one) but it isn't tethered to them. I think fans will like it when it officially releases but in its current state it isn't preferable to MoO2.

    @Silverstar

A question: is travel done by star lanes?

Yes it is. A fact many people seem to despise... very many people. So I think that might still be subject to change. Personally I don't mind it, at least early on; in MoO2 you can have like 3 adjacent systems but not be able to travel to any of them until you get Ion Drives or whatever, now that's no longer an issue.

    Not good news.
Call me a traditionalist and conservative but I, like so many it seems, prefer no star lanes. i want my starship drives back.
    Hope they change it.
