What does the base bardsong actually do and at what levels does it improve (BG:EE, BG2:EE)?

I just realized under the blade bard it says "Bard song does not improve with levels" or some such thing. Does the base Bardsong improve? I thought it was just a fear remover.

    I don't think the kitless bardsong improves at all either...

    This is probably just a redundancy. I checked the BG2:EE manual and it doesn't actually list that under Blade disadvantages anymore at all.

    The basic, kit-less Bard Song does indeed not improve with levels. It only improves once you pick the HLA, which is the same for all Bard kits.
