@beowolf Um what? you did not have to pay for the new npcs in bgee 2 unless you got it on ipad. if we do get the sod npcs into bg 2 it will be in a free up date we already payed for them.

Orly I recall I had to buy the 4 npcs for BG 1 Enhanced - I thought I paid for them in Bg2 Enhanced too. But I could be wrong as money is of no matter for me since I looted the Ducal Palace treasury

@00zim00 I hope people are wrong about Safana (why do neutral characters always have to choose between good and evil?) and we have a way of keeping her into BG2EE, averting her rather badly written fate in that story. That is my wish, but it's probably a bit late to ask for that...

With the engine update later this month. I could say my 100% custom PC party from BGEE which will be available to single player mode March 31st

Man I hope they don't can Ajantis. Dude is my tank. Would probably have to turn to Yeslick or uhhhhh Khalid.

there is always dorn, minsc and Voghiln

Just not the same. Minsc or Dorn maybe adequate tanks. I don't see Voghiln tanking.
When charname isn't the tank, then it's Ajantis plus girdle of dex for a good party, or Kagain plus girdle of Dex for an evil party

Yeslick might be a possibility in terms of both tanking and healing.

Gauntlets of Dex and he should be good to go.

Unless the contract has changed I don't think they would be allowed to alter her fate in BG2 :(

I don't think Yeslick is making the cut either

from what it looks like: any npc that is not a party member in bg 2 or a beamdog npc is not going into sod.

khalid and dynaheir are the exceptions of course.

She seems to be one of the exceptions. From what we have been told/guessing she is basically intended to be a Imoen substitute in neutral or good party's. Which kinda sucks I know as she dosnt have the best of stats compared to Imoen.

They have also said how they have given her alot more dialogue to make her more interesting and really flesh out her character so maybe that's some consolation.

Any word if the new NPCs will transfer into BG2? I'd hate for them to introduce some great characters and have them disappear :(
  • ThelsThels Member Posts: 1,422
@Kaisc006: Currently not. BG2 is being updated to receive the new UI, bugfixes, balance fixes, Shaman class and Cleric kit, as well as support bringing over a few more items from BG/SoD.

But adding the SoD NPCs to BG2 would be adding new content. It's not part of the current patch. If there is a lot of interest in the new NPCs, they could be included in a future DLC/Patch.

I had a brainfart and forgot about her.

In one of the streams they said certain NPC's would receive some stat boosts in SoD, I would imagine Safana will be one of them :)
  • megamike15megamike15 Member Posts: 2,666
yeah i think in the last stream they said they messed with her skills to make her more useful.

Which is f***ing lame. Way to waste the opportunity to give characters like Tiax, Skie, Eldoth, Coran, etc. their fair share of screentime.

I've already played with the SoD characters in BG1 & BG2 for the last 15-however many damn years. I wouldn't mind a few returning, but still....

At the very least, they could've told us from the get-go, rather than a month ahead of release, that not every party member can be carried through. What's more is that what little of their marketing actually existed seems like it was purposely misleading about "everyone returning".

I can't imagine any situation in which I would ever want Eldoth in my party.

It wouldn't make sense for many, if any, of those other characters to return - especially considering their involvement in BG2 as non-party NPCs. Of course, that seems like a pretty cheap explanation considering they are allowing Safana,
considering her untimely demise circa late BG2:SoA,
but in some cases like Tiax, it is a more fitting reason.

In any case, I'd rather them spend time fleshing some character dialogue out than have an overwhelming number of 'mehs' like BG1 did. This being an opinion, of course.

I'm okay that our choice of companions is limited, since they're trying to do BG II levels of detail for each one (Banter, comments on quests, etc.). I am NOT okay that Beamdog has still not made it clear that your choices are this limited. The way they talked in the streams it sounded like there were companions they hadn't shown yet, and that's not true.

To be fair, I've not watched any streams. I attempted to watch a replay of one, but it made me cringe a bit. (Sorry, not meant to offend, I just prefer a specific type of presentation for such things.) All of what I've seen has been pretty lax on details overall, though I typically avoid hype-fueling things (trailers and the like) for the same reason you're frustrated. Saves me the hassle of being disappointed, I suppose.

I kinda understand the frustration. When Siege of Dragonspear was announced, my first big thought was "Wow! Now Shar-Teel, Kivan or even Xzar/Montaron will get banters and some sweet screen time!". And to be honest, they're still going to get it, because for prologue you can bring anyone and at the end say your goodbyes.. and honestly, I think it's good enough. Gives me opportunity to check the new npcs ^^

BG finishes with no information given about "what happens next".
That freedom has allowed a huge body of work to be created to fill in the gap.
I'm not sure I want that filled with something that becomes seen as the "official/canon" story unless it does take into consideration the reaction of the playing community to original NPC.
  • RedWizardRedWizard Member Posts: 242
No Monty and Xzar is a crime. And Tiax too!
It's already bad enough you have to say at all as to what happens to them in BG2.

Providing the characterization of BG2 that they didn't get in BG1 doesn't make sense?

This was their chance to make these NPCs more interesting and it would've been less monotonous than taking Minsc and Jaheira for the umpteenth BG playthrough.

Is it possible to keep Imoen in the party during SoD?

Just a simple answer please

Can anyone tell me, spoiler free if possible, I am at the first 'no turning back' point, am I supposed to be able to find Jaheira/Khalid by now? They simply disappeared without explanation after the intro. I expected stuff like that for continuity, but still.... annoying. I've already milked every point of XP in BG1 with them, so I can't well abandon them somewhere silly now... If I'm not supposed to be able to find them, fine, but frankly the game should indicate that fact somehow.

Did any text inputs show up during your initial entry area from them? Based on my experience with other NPC's, you should see something from them pop up during the initial area, which will give you an idea of where the NPC's will be going, or what they have in mind.

During chapter 7, Khalid and Jaheira will say many times that they want to spend some time together (Jaheira, for instance, says that she wants to spend some quality time with Khalid) and that's what they actually do. If you ask Corwin about them, she will tell you that they left.
No worry, though: you will meet them again :)
