Full list of implemented feature requests?

As we all know already, BG:EE has been delayed for two and half months. In Tent Oster's annoucment of delay, he mentions something like this: "we’ve added new characters, areas, and story, creating many new hours of game play. Yet the suggestions, fixes, and translations continue, and more volunteers keep joining." I think that was excuse for this delay.

So, more request coming and coming, right? But at this point we, customers, really don't know anything at all about which requests are implemented, and which are not. I recommend making complete list of implemented suggestions, and update this list regulary. That way Overhaul could regain customer's trust, since we could see that they really are working, and it's not in vain.

So, who would like to have this list?

Isnt that what the CandleKeep Library and 'list of things that have been announced' areas are for? If there was anything of significance that has been put in then my first guess is that we'll be reading about it there. Its where they mentioned the 1PP information that people said they wanted in feature requests.
But even then, I dont see any of this as a matter of "consumer trust" as you put it, I think its more about patience.

List of things that have been announced doesn't mean "list of implemented feature requests". That's because from all request made, there is very little of them annouced - 1PP to be exact. They also could implement lot of request, but not informing us about it. What I want to accomplish is a list where I could see all things implemented via suggestions here and I wish it to be regulary updated, so I could see how developers are faring.

It is matter of trust, to me, at least. I want know what developers are working for at the moment, so I could say - it's ok, you're really taking two and half months on work, so you've regained my trust.

Also, having some info would certainly help me waiting. I like to know what I've paid for already.

Hmm... i think there's a thread going around that lists the major suggestions have been made. Maybe that could see some confirmed updates? I think a suggestion like this would be difficult because people may have expressed an interest in having something being included, and something could appear that differs from whats was asked for. Personally, i think a list of things added would meet the same need you're asking for.

Maybe we've just got a different perspective on this then: I mean I haven't pre-ordered myself, but I already know Im going to buy it when it comes out (no matter what it is). So I see them risking fallback from potential buyers from extending their release date as being them earning my trust more than breaking it. True we dont exactly know why things have turned out this way, and that can be jarring, but I think we have a sense of the enormity of it due to the time-span needed. I doubt anyone on this forum would want a game thats 2.5 months away from seeing its completion.

    95% in favour isn't bad :D

Would I like the list? Yes.

Am I likely to get it? I don't think so.

When I hear "more volunteers coming on board," I think, maybe they got some other mod writers to help donate and/or convert their stuff to BGEE. Maybe they had such reaction to the project that they have money now that they didn't have, to do things they couldn't. Or just maybe, something big broke down and more hands were needed to raise the barn. A list of definite features would be premature.

They erred in providing a hard release date. They should not err again and promise features that are not yet rock-solid additions.

    @Hertz

We're not asking for the ones that aren't rock solid yet; the things that might be added. We're asking to see what ones are already added.

And I don't really think that's too much to ask.

Check out the "Fixed" forum for things that are confirmed to have been fixed or implemented for the enhanced edition. Some of these things aren't bugs.

Not everything makes its way into the Fixed forum, but you can get a sense for what's being done from there.

It might be harder than you think, Kithrixx. Something which is definitely done and added on Monday could be broken again by Wednesday, fixed Thursday, re-broken on Friday, and take all next week to debug. And it might still break again next week when more changes go in.

To get a list of implemented feature requests, we'd first need a complete list of feature requests (such as those in this forum). This doesn't exist yet and I can't see Beamdog making it. Fans would have do it. I know a similar thing was attempted earlier, but it seems to have stalled of late. Probably 'cause it was a colossal effort.

    I want ..

but i don't feel it would be real..

$ 19.9 , is quite cheap , thoese features may wait the DLCs avaiable , and we pay more money for Overhaul

All of developers have family which need to feed children and working for live.

If we hope the enhanced edition will be better in the future , we should know more money be paid would be necessary ...

The only dream can't make things becomre real...

Complete list of feature requests is´not best idea.
Not all features requests are good ideas ( some are really stupid ).

But list of implemented feature requests is really good idea.
I want check whether authors listen supporters thoughts.
( Some things here are clever, simple and easy to implement )

Not sure if you have noticed it or not, but topic is about already IMPLEMENTED requests. I'm not that stupid as to ask for list of every request that has been made.

Clearly, a large plurality of voters want muffins. And I'm one of them. Where's my muffin?

@ZelgadisGW: I think he was talking to me and not you. And FYI @Edvin, I agree, many fan requests just aren't worth including. My idea was to organize the ones that get a lot of attention (e.g.: improve the wizard slayer) into a format that people could easily see.

I did it. *I* voted against seeing an implemented feature table! Wah ha ha HA HA!!!!

I've done some simple programing before and foresee some possible issues with this request, believe it or not.

For one, compiling a list and posting it would take time. Sure, they have to do that eventually anyhow, but maintaining that list also takes time. Time that would come out of precious "make BG better" time.

For another, the programer's hands are bound pretty tight already it seems. They can't legally or technically make certain changes to the Infinity Engine environment. That means that certain features may be mutually exclusive; they may have to choose between implementing feature X and feature Y. As soon as they post implemented features with feature X on that list, they've made a promise to the community to deliver feature X. That means that, no matter how much better feature Y would be then feature X, they can't put it in. We want the best features. We DON'T want to tie their hands anymore then they already are. Please don't push them into making promises before they feel they can.

What @RomulanPaladin said. All the major features (new characters, areas, quests) are publicly known, the rest is a practically never-ending list of requests, from which a minority will actually get implemented by the release date, and some more will make it post-ship. It's a difficult balancing act to decide what gets in or out when there are still problems with the core engine, base game and polish to go into the new major features. I believe it's in everyone's best interest that the team keeps a flexible outlook going forward.

The point of all this is customer's trust. Mine trust. I do not mean to give developers additional pointless thing to worry about - I want to see on what they are working on and to see they progress. Due to fuss about game delay 4 days prior to first release, Overhaul has lost some credibility. You just can go delay a game at the last moment, then expect a customer, who already bought the product, to be as trustfull as at the very beginning.

Sorry, but I need to know.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
@Zeckul and @RomulanPaladin are right, though. A developer needs to be able to do the work to make the game better without having to deal with a lot of angry comments about something that hasn't even been polished yet. Those comments lead a developer to second-guess its decision-making, which doesn't help in making future decisions.

If you want to keep apprised of the changes being made, keep an eye on Trent's twitter. Occasionally he'll leak hints and clues about what he's working on (most recently: an updated Journal interface). If you want, you can start making a list of features that you've seen in tweets or elsewhere on the forum. It won't be exhaustive by any means, but it will start to give you an idea of what sorts of things are being worked on.

    @Aosaw
You actually are right. Trent's twitter contains *hints* but not *facts*. Also, while explaining delay, Overhaul claimed that one of the reason was support from fants - including massive ammount of request. So I thught it would be good to know how they are actually dealing with users' requests, since that was one of claimed reasons for delay.

But whatever. I can take "no", so I wouldn't have hard feeling if this topic was ignored by developers.
