Collectors Edition Ship Date

Hi,

The only info I can find on this is from the CE page:-
"that will be shipped to you as soon as it is ready from the manufacturer"
Is there any estimate yet when this might be?
Even if it is only to narrow it down to whether it is days, weeks or months after 31st March :)

It's going to be at least a couple of months, just because of how long it takes to make everything. We'll post more information when we know more specifics.

ok that's great, thanks Dee! it definitely looks worth waiting for

That could potentially be a problem for me. I'm leaving for a couple of months in the middle of June. Will it be here before then? Also, will there be some kind of shipment notification?

This does beg the question: If they haven't been made yet, why are there only a limited number available? Couldn't the production run could be increased to meet demand (pre-orders are 'money in the bank' after all)?
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
I really wish it worked like that, but no. Manufacturers need time to plan production.
  • dunbardunbar Member Posts: 1,603
But months? I used to work in a manufacturing industry where the product process time was three weeks yet we managed to adapt our production plan on a weekly basis to react to market variations. Also if you've already planned to make "x" amount of a particular product it's not difficult to change the plan to "x times 2" (or whatever) given that a) basic raw materials are the same across all brands (only the "recipe" changes) and b) production remains at 100% capacity for longer (brand changes = downtime = loss of production, so longer production runs mean improved profitability).

Since it'll take so much time, can we expect that if there is a patch beyond 2.0 in the near future it will be included on the DVD as well?

I really want to have an stable version on physical disk, specially being a collector's edition this expensive.

One of the reasons why the ship date isn't confirmed is so that there can be "good code" on the DVDs that are sent according to Trent. That probably means post beta 2.0 will be on the discs, and production will probably start once the beta is over.

Beamdog tends to be slow with their patches, so don't expect another one at least 6 months after release.

I would get in contact with support@beamdog.com then asap.

Hi, can someone please clarify for me about the CE I purchased?

Will I have to wait well after the 31st to play it or will I receive it around that time? If I will not have it then, will I be able to download it so I can still play the game while waiting for my box.

    Thanks,
    Delekahn

    Update
I think I read these posts and info sheets, but I guess I don't actually take them in. Found my answer on the main SoD info page....

I'm hoping the ship date is delayed so to get as many patches in the final dvd as possible. I know that's not to everyone's liking but for me, I can wait.

Darn, I have planned to preorder CE to an adress in US where my sister currently reside. But she is leaving at the end of april.
And I don't want to pay double the price for shipping + custom fees.
Oh well, I guess its the standard edition for me then

They already said physical boxes won't arrive until the summer, June or July most likely, due to production.

Therefor, you likely will receive the 2.0 patch on the discs, though they may wait a week or two with CD production to squelch any bugs that they missed during the beta.

But the CEs arriving in the summer doesn't mean you'll get any patches released just before then on the CD, because they have to finalize the CD contents to start producing them.

So, if Beamdog has already charged my credit card (which is illegal by the way-you can only charge once the merchandise actually ships) does that mean I'm getting one?

This is getting really disappointing. There wasn't any indication how long it would take before the collectors edition shipped. Now there's only a vague "June/July" timeframe, despite the fact that Beamdog already took payment. I just found out this morning that if you get the collectors edition you don't get a download of the soundtracks, and an upcoming patch was mentioned as soon as SoD launched. From where I'm standing, it looks like I just paid ~$150 for a piece of buggy software. It honestly doesn't seem like this was thought out very well and you launched your product about 3 months early. So, what does Beamdog plan to do to fix this?

Is there any information on whether the shipped collector's edition will include fixes to technical issues in BG2EE, or with an updated UI (under the assumption some of the feedback results in changes)?

For what it is worth, I would be more than happy to have a SoD Steam key and not get the collector's edition until December, then get it tomorrow but not have fixes.

The Collector's Edition doesn't include BGII:EE. As for the rest of it, that depends largely on what is the latest we can send the game data to be printed. In either case, the copy that ships on the DVD will be compatible with the Beamdog client, so you'll be able to update your CE copy even if you haven't been playing through one of the included digital copies already.

Thank you - that is a great relief. The BG1EE looks good updated (I haven't gone through it in full post-2.0 yet, but just from what I see I am pleased). I had worried there would be different looking versions of BG1 and BG2 in CD set.

I am quite excited for the cloth map (first version of the game I bought had a paper one, if I recall correctly), dice set and adventurer's guide. You simply cannot beat the feel of having something in hand.

Is it too early to hope that there will be a collector's edition for BG2EE?

I'd say it's too early, yes. But that doesn't mean it won't ever happen. One thing at a time. :)

I'm slightly disappointed. Most if not all game companies have released the CE at the same time as the Standard version. Whats the hold up. Why is there no mention on the CE page that it would ship at a later date? How long will it take? I need to make plans to be sure to have enough space on the credit card for the duty fees and whatever.

Well I have space now due to those jerks at square only making 30k CE's of FFXV worldwide. I'm extremely upset about that. They were sold out before I knew they were taking pre-orders.

    I will hold faith then.

I know you guys are catching a lot of flack over the gg/trans issues, but no single line of dialogue among the many, many thousands can make or break a game. Tempest in a teacup.

By your activity on these forums and positive feedback towards technical changes you have restored my optimism that BG2EE will be excellent following the patches. You have at least one customer-in-waiting!

Unless Jaheira's dialogue or personality is toyed with, then it is war.

huh? gg/trans issue? first I've heard of it.

I know this was a joke, but when I was a lot younger I actually used to hate on Jaheira big-time. Now, she's honestly one of my favorite characters in BGII:EE, romance and all.

Yep, apparently there's a piece of random dialogue that makes the game completely unplayable. Oh, and Something about a trans NPC casting a 30th level horror spell on the party with no saving throw.

That is something we share. When I was younger, I saw her as a bully to Khalid. It wasn't until I was in my 20's I started to see her as being a strong individual who loved and protected her husband. It says great things about Bioware that they had a one-dimensional male character, alongside a strong female with agency, in a 90's game.

Of course, it is always the simple things that tear families apart, like bears.

I didn't care much for her in BG. But I absolutely loved her in SoA. I always thought that Jaheira, Imoen, and Arie were the most well done NPCs, bar none.

Ahh, now I know to stop waiting for mail for the moment (and start waiting for it in June).

I'm not playing it until I get the hard-copy, so I suppose if it's going to be a couple of months, by then patches and fix-packs will be out and a number of initial bugs will be dealt with.

Also on how long it takes to make them, it's not just the DVDs themselves but also all the extra goodies that come in the Collector's Editions - the booklets, maps, collector coins - even stuff like all the packaging like the DVD case and it's label and leaflets that may be inside, the box everything gets put in... The DVD maker doesn't make them so Beamdog also has to coordinate getting those done and packaged.

Meanwhile, while I'm waiting, I'm back playing The Sims 3. Given that my current Charname is an expy of my RP Silmaril who happens to also be a Grey Warden (in some timelines)... well my sim Eleni Surana can be an expy of the Bhaalspawn Eleni Suráea too.
