Hi guys,
I have just completed the Mage Stronghold questline but I am wondering what is the actual point of a stronghold in BG2? Base of operations, storage, more quests?
Many thanks for your help,
Falthas

I know that when I take Nalia's Keep, I enjoy fantasizing about being a lord and managing a local population, and having become very wealthy through that, but also being fair and concerned about the welfare of my people.
When I take the Five Flagons Playhouse, I really enjoy fantasizing about having become a patron of the arts through my adventuring wealth, and producing that nameless play. (It's a well-known Shakespeare related theater superstition to never say the name of it if you're involved in producing it. Everybody who knows the real life play knows what the Five Flagons play is based on - which was very cool writing from the original devs, I thought.)
When I take one of the temples as my "stronghold", I enjoy having become such a well-known and highly respected spiritual leader that people make pilgrimages from miles around to come to my temple and seek my spiritual guidance and advice.
The planar sphere isn't one of my favorites, but when I do take it, I like to fantasize that I've obtained my very own Stargate, or Starship Enterprise, where I can conduct scientific "magical" research, and travel through time and space to explore unlimited worlds. Dr. Who fans would probably enjoy thinking of the planar sphere as their own personal Tardis.
My favorite is the playhouse. I often choose to play bards when I'd really rather play a mage or cleric, just because I can't resist the idea of owning that theater.
but yeah strongholds are just a flavor thing , and some items ..some are better than other like the thiefs guild is the most rubbish for being "lost" if you leave it be for a week.
On the Mage stronghold quest, I liked the quest itself and the items you get. Fun. In the end, if you kept the apprentices alive and kept coming back for potions, you'll end the game with an abundancy of potions. Useful or not useful, it depends. I found it fun killing the demons (though the second was hard for me at my low levels) and i like the loot.
Also, most of them have pretty nice quests tied to it, and give you something extra to do.
In BG2, they do little more than provide a few quests and increase the fun-factor. Don't expect them to be useful. You can't even access them after a certain point in the game.
I personally like the bard, mage and ranger strongholds the best, whereas I greatly dislike the cleric stronghold.
Sorry, I really love that stronghold.
A: Signs point to "no."
