Since the patch got downloaded, the game won't start...

...and when I tried to add a DEP exception, it told me "this program must run with DEP enabled", and wouldn't do anything. So now I'm stuck. Oddly enough, this is only for 2, the first game still works.

I'm having the same issue! It briefly worked and I exited because I forgot I had to do something else with my PC and when I went back to the game it wouldn't open.

Same for me, I had to exit to reinstall my mod NPCs, thought that might have been related somehow, but maybe not.

I'm not official tech support but try installing OpenAL32( https://www.beamdog.com/support/766 ) in BG2EE's installation folder.

Yeah, no dice. I'd imagine that if something like that were the problem, it wouldn't have been working before I exited the first time.

My game crashes now when trying to make a new game or load one. I then deleted the entire folder, uninstalled, redownloaded but still cannot start a new game.

If you have Avast or other antivirus running, please try quitting it and see if the program runs.

Had the same problem. I tried reinstalling both games, reinstalling STEAM, disabling DEP completely, disabling antivirus, uninstalling antivirus, disabling my graphics and sound, uninstalling all my windows updates. Nothing worked.

I lost patience and just formated my HD and reinstalled windows. Now it's all good.

@TheGraveDigger Geez, that sounds pretty extreme. I'm still having no luck, but I think I'll wait a little while before trying that.

I resolved the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling. Would have done that sooner if SOD hadn't been around to distract me.

My mods aren't working, but I suspect that's a compatibility issue with the new patch, so not much to do about it.

Have you tried the two sections at http://beamdog.zendesk.com/home
    http://beamdog.zendesk.com/entries/31177538-Windows-My-Game-Won-t-Launch-Or-Is-Crashing-On-Launch
    https://beamdog.zendesk.com/entries/30467437--Steam-Windows-Game-Says-It-Is-Launching-But-Then-Nothing-Happens

If you still have issues after that please advise
    • Store (Beamdog, Steam, GoG)
    • Game and version e.g. BG:EE v2.3
    • Platform (e.g. PC, Mac, Linux)
    • Operating System (e.g. Windows 7, OS X El Capitan, Ubuntu 16.04
For the PC version, please also include a dxdiag report
(Press Windows/R keyboard combination, type dxdiag into the run prompt, click ok. Wait for it to run and click save all information. Save as dxdiag.txt and drop that file into the comment box here)
    Thanks
