Is your game slower with the patch? Mine is.

I think I have slight delay when I click on the items, other than that did not notice anything significant

I noticed some lag during character creation when holding the cursor over a + or - in order to add or subtract attribute points.

My intel graphic card had trouble with some new shading, but deactivating some graphic engines made it better than it were.

I notice a significant slowdown after combat. Quicksaving/Quickloading fixes it.

    What exactly did you deactivate?

    These ones are deactivated:
    Zoom Lock
    Sprite Outlines
    Highlight Selected Outline
    Dither Always
    Alternate Render

My graphic card is Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
It still lags with the new map tougth.

    Hello,

I have a HP Core 2 Duo 5300 that came with 4GB RAM and an integrated Intel G43 video card (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD according to the HP site). The Windows 7 Pro 32 Bit OS is installed on a Intel 525 SSD.

The system worked just fine until I decided to install the new 2.0 patched version (I purchased the game from GOG). I experienced a lot of lag when trying to move the party.

Basically I had to change the resolution to 800 x 600 (from 1920 x 1080) just to play normally. The slow moving party issue was worse when I tried to use zoom in (with the max zoom setting, it was almost impossible to move the party).

After checking an older thread from this forum related to a similar issue, I concluded that this may be related to the poorly implemented Open GL function of the Intel integrated drivers.

Checking the Graphics menu from the game I noticed the turned off Alternate Renderer and after checking the description (it mentioned something about using the DirectX Renderer when activated) I activated it and the slow moving party issue was solved.

The only issue with this option active is a small sound delay when playing movies in the game.

Maybe this can help other Intel integrated graphic users.

Thanks for this. I had to do the same because I have an Intel card too.

I'm getting a caching or stutter effect every 10 min or so, anyone have an idea on what to turn off for that?

Casting Raise Dead on the thread:

After installing the latest patch 2.3 the SoD became slow again. Previously I would change to the alternate renderer and solve the issue but this time it did not work.

The the real strange part is the fact that when updating the BGEE to 2.3 the framerate is OK, the low frame rate is specific to the SoD game.

It's a bit annoying to find out that SoD is a becoming an exercise in patience instead of a game to enjoy.

I believe that the issue is related to the the Intel chipset integrated graphic drivers but since Intel has discontinued the driver development for these graphic chips, the only solution may be provided by Beamdog (I have already installed the latest Intel generic graphic drivers from the Intel driver download site).

I do hope that the next patche(s) for SoD will solve this issue otherwise, Siege of Dragonspear will just become a nice picture in my GOG purchased game list. :(

Hi @Foxter, not sure whether you have tried this but it wouldn't hurt... Could you check your baldur.lau for this line:

    SetPrivateProfileString('Graphics','Backend','1')

If it is a 1, then try changing it to 0; if it is a 0, then change to 1.

    1 = DirectX, 0 = OpenGL

    Gus

Edit: Also try and reinstall DirectX 9

Thank you Gus, I'll try that as soon as possible.
