BG EE Crashing when moving cursor over an AI

DaxiathDaxiath Member Posts: 2
so, i bought it on steam yesterday (IWD EE has never had an issue or crashed on steam). it started up fine but if i move my cursor over any AI character it immediately freezes and crashes. i checked all other fixes i could find, most were for multiplayer crashes and a white screen of death on startup; ran the game in every possible compatibility mode, verified cache integrity, ran as admin, reinstalled, tinkered with ALL of the graphics options (including the mouse icon that supposedly causes crashes in some cases) I even tried starting it without the use of steam to no avail.

i'm not very computer savvy but most people had problems with integrated graphics cards or NIVIDIA, i have a Radeon ATI (that's what it says) and windows 7 which, the only problems I've seen containing to windows 7 seems to be crashes on startup and multiplayer. i should clarify when it crashes it freezes indefinitely, i have yet to see it minimize and pop up a crash report (i always end process tree after a few minutes of waiting)

so uh, any advice? and thanks!

so a little edit here, someone on steam suggested rolling it back to 1.3 and it worked however the game crashes on resting. so i guess the new question is how can i get 2.0 to work/ it to stop crashing on rest? (i assume I'll be missing a ton of new of content?)

Are you getting a crash dump by chance?

"If your game crashed, find the crash dump in Documents\Infinity Engine - Enhanced Edition\crash and attach it to your report as a .zip. Also include the save game that generated the crash dump."

That's one of the steps from the bug reporting post below. Since it works in 1.3 but not 2.0 i would suggest making a bug report so that the devs are aware of the issue. They would probably want a full spec of your PC. Normally i would suggest adding a Dxdiag txt file but im not sure if that's something the devs want posted in a report as I dont see it mentioned but im sure they will let you know.

Another option is to just email support, they will want the same information

(on 2.0) Go into graphics and turn on alternative renderer. Then restart the game.

i'll have to tinker around with it a few times and get the crash reports so it will be quite thorough in the number of dx diags on both versions when i get the time thanks! (didn't want to open a ticket if it was a simple fix but it doesn't look that way huh so far  ) as for the renderer that was a common fix thanks for the idea but I've tried that ( still crashes and holy shit does it lag )

as for 2.0 i checked it again also (hadn't even tried resting on it before since the 1.3 rest triggers a crash, 2.0 doesn't crash on rest (with or without the alternate rendering) but still crashes when moving curosr over the AI. so i assume each error message is specific to each version.

finally on one crash i did get a little box in the corner that said: display driver ati stopped rendering and has recovered.

though it doesn't start working again.

Kinda sounds like your graphics driver is having the issue o.O. Have you updated the drivers?

Here is the Troubleshooting steps again for when you get time to tinker around with it. Hope it helps :)
